need advice on reception ideas

I need help!!! I am so not good with this planning stuff!  We recently got engaged (2 weeks ago) and are trying to plan a wedding for this Fall - yes I said THIS Fall.  Might be a bit ambitious on my part.  My questions is....

We want a small / intimate wedding.  Dark, candles, etc.  Looking for a place to host ceremony and reception.  Max 60 people.  My problem is we don't really want dancing.  Food, cocktails and atmosphere are important to us.  If we don't have dancing what would we do??  Any ideas??

We are looking at locations in Alexandria but we are open to any area in Northern VA, DC, MD area.  Any and all ideas are needed and needed ASAP if I am going to pull off this Fall wedding!

Thanks!

-M

So I'm not sure if it fits your exact style, and I'm not sure if they have an area good for a ceremony but there is a private club in Georgetown called "George" - Link below - when you said it was a smaller group, and said "dark and intimate" it made me think if this area.

What about just having a long dinner party?  60 people is small enough to do a restaurant and just have a big meal (several courses).  Allows you to talk and hang out, but it might be difficult to see everyone still.

    Lightfoot Restaurant in Leesburg, VA
    Mount Vernon Inn
    Madigan's Waterfront Restaurant, Occoquan, VA
Otherwise, look at country clubs or if you military then the officers' club on all the bases have rooms.

Look at the Tabard Inn in DC. I am getting married there, and it sounds like just what you’re looking for. They have private event rooms that fit a max of around 60.

Check Bristow Manor in Bristow, Virginia.  I think it would be amazing for what you're trying to do!

I agree with PP, dinner party...or do a daytime/early evening wedding--that way dancing wouldnt come up...or just go with a smaller place with no dance floor and maybe have some live music for guests to listen to while they mingle...
