Creative Engagement Photoshoot Locations

I'm looking for some "out of the box" engagement photoshoot locations in Philadelphia (ie: not the Rocky statue, Art Museum steps, LOVE sculpture, Rittenhouse Square or cheesesteaks).  We're a couple that loves our city and want to have a lot of fun with our shoot.  Artsy and interesting is much preferred over mushy and overly romantic.

Any tips or ideas on places to shoot on a beautiful Friday afternoon in May?

Things we both love:
Outdoor farmer's markets
South Philadelphia
Comedy
Books
Food and Drink

Thanks ladies!

Re: Creative Engagement Photoshoot Locations

  • I think the Italian Market would be great for photos - lots of activity all the time, very colorful, interesting personalities all around you :) You could also go to Pat's/Geno's, if you don't think that's too touristy. What's your favorite restaurant? Where was your first date? Penn's campus has some cool alleys and walkways for pictures and if you could do after graduation, it would probably be pretty dead as well. The new South Street Bridge would also be nice.
  • Great ideas!  Pat's and Geno's falls under the cheesesteak category so I don't want to go there, but the other options sound very cool.

Race Street Pier.  You said you like books and food and drink.  Pack a picnic basket and grab some books and head over there on the grass.  Photog should be able to get some great candids with the bridge in the background.

It might not be out of the box by the time May rolls around.  It's newer but I hear lots of couples have been hitting it up for pictures.  I just hope it's still nice and not tagged up by the time our wedding rolls around next April.

  • How about the Magic Gardens on South Street? There is a fee, but it's only $50....and it's like $20pp to get in anyway!  The gazebo at the Waterworks and Kelly Drive are nice too!

I think those are adorable locations but not as "out of the box" as I would like.  I have seen a lot of couples do shoots there and the shots are great, but I want to try some new things.

  • I was going to suggest the new South Street Bridge also.  It has a great view of CC.
