Last Minute New Home

WOW.... after reading everything and seeing the damage in Hatteras Island we made the decision to find another event home.  So sadly I will not be getting married at The Love Boat :(   We found another event home in Corolla... with the help of our caterer Debra at Argyles.. who I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone getting married in the OBX.

So.. now I am in the process of switching everything around with 11 days to go and just a few until we leave!!!

Anyone planning to get married at "The Player" in Currituck Club?  I am interested to hear how brides set up the home for weddings.

Thanks... crazzzzy past few days.

Nice house Alice.  Just took a look at it, and gorgeous!  We wanted to rent an event home in The Currituck Club for next year(Par Excellence), but were told that there will be no more Event homes within the Currituck Club beginning in 2012.  Bummer.  Also, yours is no pets, which wouldn't work for us.  Nice home though.  Great choice!

if you don't have insurance yet... I would also highly recommend wedsafe!  They have been amazing so far to work with.

Alice, I was looking at Wedsafe website.  And you have to choose a liability option or a cancellation option?  What the heck did you choose?  We are having a small wedding of about 23 people at a beachfront home in Duck.  Any suggestions would help.  Thanks.

We actualy had both.  We opted out of the insurance offered by Hatteras Realty... so we had to purchase liabilitty insurance b/c we were holding the wedding at the house.  And for a little bit more money we added the cancellation option.  I am so glad we did!

    Alice,

I've had my wedding.  But, just curious, how much does wedding insurance cost?  I think a lot more couples might consider this now that we've seen Irene.

Alice I am so happy for you.  It's great you got insurance and though it's not the wedding you pictured it's still going to happen and be wonderful.

And to follow up on what MP asked, how does this "wedding insurance" process work?  Meaning, you get the insurance BEFORE your wedding, and if you need to use it, HOW do you use it and what do you get back, etc?  What are you basically "insuring"?  All new to me and Kel.  Much different from a local church wedding.

MP is right.  Irene scared ALOT of us couples with future weddings, not so much as Kel and I(Sept '12), but how about Char, Kels, Bethany, Erin, and Toni?

I am so glad everything is working out Alice.  I have been thinking out you over the last few days.  Sad you can't use the love boat, but so glad you found another beautiful home!

To everyone who wants some wedsafe info... We paid $383 and we have $1 million general liability (and liquor liability) and $38,000 to cover the cost of wedding replacement/ cancellation/ whatever comes up out of our control. The $38,000 is considerably more than the cost of our wedding, but if we have to pick up and move, it'll be very helpful to have money at our disposal.
My mom is an insurance agent, and said this is a very small price to pay for this much coverage.  I was on the phone with her while reading this and she wanted me to tell everyone that they stop selling all insurance when there is an imminent threat to the area.  So don't risk it! And don't forget to insure your rings too :)

That's not bad at all.  Does this cover only your expenses?  What about guests?

Yes... we're running into that problem now with Katia!!!!!!!  Some of our friends who are trying to rent new homes in Corolla cannot get insurance!  What a headache!!   If Katia hits...  we are eloping! :)

@RussoWill explains the insurance well... and so far... It's as good as it sounds.  We have no complaints with Wedsafe... and I hope it stays that way!

Is your mom an agent in Virginia?  Where do you get this insurance?  Thanks.

Maria- Not sure about every situation, but we had to sign a contract saying we are financially responsible for the whole inn that we are using for the wedding. Everyone is paying for their own rooms, but if we don't fill them all, FI and I pay the rest. So for that reason, all hotel reservations at First Colony are covered.  Not sure about our guests who rented elsewhere.

Boderboo- My mom is an agent in VA, but she does commercial lines, so she helped me pick out the insureance, but through www.wedsafe.com
I know OBX's wedding is the day before mine, so if you're looking into it, do it soon just in case Katia decides to head this way :)
