Northstar?

Anyone been to a wedding at Northstar in Truckee?  Opinions?

I have never attended a wedding there. But, last summer I saw them setting up a mid-mountain wedding for that afternoon. I would recommend not doing it at the top of the gondola, as I (and many other people) were up there for mountain biking, and I think it would be pretty obnoxious to have bikes circling around your ceremony/reception the whole time. They do not close the area off from the public, and it's a pretty major intersection for the trails. From what I remember they have a few other site options that might be better, though. Also, if you're going to be in between biking and skiing seasons that wouldn't be a problem.

I have photographed a couple of weddings at their golf course and it was gorgeous! Really beautfiful view of Martis Valley and the mountains. I'm not sure about the other ceremony sites throughout the mountain though, but the village is really nice as well.

I photograph at least one wedding a year at Northstar, and let me just say, their staff is he best. Sharon, Nancie and Brett are wonderful and make everything go so smoothly. I've photographed at Mid-Mountain, the Village Overlook, and the golf course. The Village overlook is very pretty with views overlooking the Village in one direction and a nice lawn and aspen trees in the other. Despite the fact that it is right in the Village it's still very private, and there's plenty of room for dancing--I even did a photo booth up there. The golf course and the Martis Valley Grill are very nice as well. The ceremony area is a lawn at the base of two big pine trees, with lots of shade cover. The deck of the Grill overlooks the Martis Valley (which is virtually unsettled) and surrounding mountains. Mid-Mountain is my least favorite of the three but still very nice. It's true that there are people around for the mountain biking and hiking, but the staff does a good job at separating the ceremony area and I really don't find it disruptive or noisy. And the mountain closes at 4pm, so usually by the time the ceremony is over most of the people are gone. The Lodge at Big Springs is a nice reception location with a big deck for dancing and fire pits out front. And there are some nice locations for taking photos, including a grove of aspen trees and a little brook. There are also good spots in the Village, including a charlift chair, flower beds full of purple lupine, aspen trees wrapped in twinkle lights that look great at night, and a grand staircase. I have yet to convince a bride and groom to strap on roller skates but that is a photograph I would love to get someday!
Sorry if I rambled on, but aside from having photographed a lot of weddings at Northstar I worked there for three years. :-) I hope that helped!

    Best wishes,
    Nicole
