Mexican/American wedding....

So my fl is Hispanic and I am American. Our church wants us to decide if we want to do the Mexican traditions or just do the American tradition wedding or we can do a mix of both.

The only thing different i have noticed is the coins and the big rosary they put around you.. Does anyone know of anything else or is that all?

We meet with our Father on Feb 10th and we want to have an answer for him but also want to ask him questions about it also..

Thanks for your help...

I wore a mantilla, had the coins and rosary as well.  Check out the Hispanic site on the knot - there is a lot of information on there as well. Feel free to PM me if you need information regarding the program if you do decide to do the coins/lasso!  Good luck!

I'm Latina and my FI is Irish American. Our wedding coordinator asked us the same question. At our parish, the "American" traditions consisted of a mass in English with the unity candle as the symbol of our union, whereas the "Latino" version consisted of the mass in either Spanish or Bilingual as well as traditions such as the lazo and arras (coins).

I'm Mexican and He is American and I want to do a little bit of both...I want to have the arras or coins and I want to use the rosary or lazo that my parent used many years ago. I'm not sure if I will do the blessed candle but I will consider that option..also I have to consider that the in Mexico we "the bride" leave some flowers to the Virgin at the end of the ceremony.... and do it bilingual =)

I am Mexican and my FI is American. We are having the bilingual mass. In the procession FI will walk with his mom and my mom will walk with FI's dad and I will walk with my dad (That its different from the american tradition).  We will have the arras (coins) given by one of my bridesmaid and lazo sponsors (my sis and her husband). After communion I will offer Virgin Mary a bouquet. Then off course during the reception there will be more Mexican flare...

Thanks for all of your input. It has been very helpful..

    My next question is:

Does the church supply the coins and Lazzo? If no who should supply them and where should they get them from?

    Thanks again ladies..

Normally you have sponsors for that (meaning they gift them to you).

One of my bridesmaids is providing the arras and my sister and her husband are buying the lazo.

You can buy them at catholic stores and there is a website: http://www.weddinglazo.com/
    they have arras as well
