Hi I'm New/ Just set a date!

Hi all,

I'm Tami and I have been lurking here for a little while, and decided I should introduce myself. I just got engaged at the end of December and have just barely begun thinking about planning. Both FI and I are Catholic and are planning on getting married at the Shrine of St. Joseph in St. Louis (his hometown), although we are both currently in grad school living in Maryland and Virginia (DC area) so planning long distance is going to be a challenge.

I was getting stressed and worried because after trying ot call the wedding coordinator at the Shrine of St. Joseph for about a month just to get general information about having our ceremony there, when I finally got a hold of her I found out they were already completely booked for June 2012! I thought I was doing things way early! So after coming up with a new plan I called her back today and I am extremely happy that we have a date reserved, July 7th 2012!

I am resisting the urge to talk about wedding stuff with everyone I know so you guys get to hear it instead, haha.

I know that this date may be close to the 4th of July holiday for some of our guests, but hopefully we will not have too much trouble and I will understand if some people can't make it. My family is spread across the country so any of them who come will likely fly, so it actually may work to our advanatge as they may be able to take more time off with the 4th being a Wed. Guess we'll have to see how it goes.

Anyway hi everyone and thanks for all your great posts!

Hey! :)  I'm living in St. Louis now and planning my wedding here for Aug 6th, 2011 (just got engaged Dec 24th 2010) So if you need any recommendations for things here in STL I can pass on to you who I have talked too, and who I am using.  I wish you the very best in your planning! :)

Welcome and congrats! I know how exciting it is to set the date and really feel like the wedding is real -- but not want to drive your friends/family nuts with that excitement! That's what we're here for! :)

Also, July is clearly the best month for weddings -- I'm getting married the 9th of this year!! :)

Welcome and congrats on your engagement!

I agree with Riss. H and I were long distance for a while until I moved to be with him. And our wedding was still back in our home state. Stay organized. And e-mail is your friend. I know I kept in contact & made changes with many of my vendors via e-mail and phone.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes!

FutureMrsN11- Thanks for your offer! I will probably take you up on it as I get further into planning. FMIL is in St. Louis and has offered to help us a lot with talking to vendors and such which is wonderful! She has some ideas of vendors we should look into but it has been a while since anyone in the family has gotten married in the St. Louis area so it will be great to have someone who is currently planning a wedding to ask for advice! :) My mom and I are also planning a trip to St. Louis next month to look at reception sites. I feel like that is the next big step.

I went to a destination wedding July 10th of this year.  And since it was the same week as July 4th, it worked out great for me!  I was able to make it like a vacation for myself because I had gotten a free day off from work.  Hopefully, your family can do the same!  I would think it would totally work to their advantage.  Just try to send out save-the-dates.

I also did the long distance planning thing.  Live in Colorado, but the family is in Ohio and that's where I got married.

Good luck with all your plans! :)

Just let me know! Most of my venders are people who don't spend their money on the bridal shows and it's all from word of mouth, so they are a little cheaper then some, because they aren't spending money on advertising.  I'd be happy to help you out in any way! :) All of my venders have been great to work with.  Also around here as soon as you get on the phone with people you will know if they are good or not...either they are helpful or they pick up the phone and say "what do you want?!?" so I was able to clearly navigate my way through most of the not so wonderful to some of the best.  All the other brides I have spoken with that have used these people have had nothign but the world to say.  and because my wedding is almost a year ahead of yours I'm sure I will be able to give you some reviews :)  I hope you have a blast on your trip here and I wish you good luck meeting with people! :)

Hi, Tami!  Welcome and congratulations :)  I don't think you're too close to the holiday... a friend of mine is having a wedding ON the 4th of July this summer!  My own wedding is Memorial Day weekend... people will either want to be there or not and make the time if they do :)  Best wishes with the long-distance planning :)  A lot of the ladies on here have made it work, even with all the marriage prep!

Welcome and congratulations! I'm not from St. Louis, but southeast Missouri near the Ozarks. My fiance and I just set our date, too...for October 2011. It's a second marriage for both of us and we're thrilled to be getting married in the Church.

I don't know much about vendors, but welcome, welcome, welcome!
