Length of Catholic Ceremony (not full mass)?

Hi Ladies,

I am wondering how long on average a Catholic ceremony is?  I have typically only been to Catholic masses (as I was raised Catholic), but we are planning a ceremony because FH and his family are not Catholic.  I'm just hoping to get an idea of the range for planning purposes!

Thanks!

    Hi monbon -
It really depends on a number of factors (how much music you have, how long-winded your priest is), but I would say allow for at least 30 minutes.

Most Catholic ceremonies I've been to have not been Masses, and they've all been at least an hour.  I think it really depends on the priest, the music, etc, as Docta said.  I'd recommend asking your priest

I agree, I was in a wedding that wasn't a full mass and it was about a half hour.

Our priest told us it would be about 35 minutes.

The coordinator at our church told us it would be 35 minutes, but I've never seen one that short.

talk to your church.  they will guide you on the amount of time you will need to plan for the ceremony.  Just the ceremony about 30-40 minutes.  i am having a full mass and I am planning on about 1hr 15 minutes.  I was told an hour but like to be on the safe side.  Last wedding I was at the ceremony was 35 minutes. So discuss this with the church they will explain the timing. It will depend on what you want and dont want so some of this will also fall on what you want to have as part of your ceremony.  hope this helps.

We're not having a full mass either and I was told it will last about 40-45 minutes.

The Catholic church allows Catholics to marry non-Catholics. If they are baptized, it is a sacrament. The catholic church even recognizes the marriage of 2 baptized non-Catholics as a sacrament.

agapecarrie is right, the parish agreed that we could be married in the church even though Fi is not Catholic because I am.  It is a sacrament (for me) and will be a ceremony rather than a full mass because my Fi can't take communion.
