New CNY Knotties!!!

Ok ladies.... we have had lots of newbies joining the board (and a few silent lurkers)!

WELCOME!!!  Come out and play!!!

Please tell us a little something about yourself... what's your name?  Your fi?  When is your wedding?  Venue?  etc etc...

For those of you who are new to the board, Kara (our awesome moderator) has made a sticky at the top of the board that lists each of the CNY girls along with their real name and wedding date.  This helps everyone keep track of who's who and what's what.

(Kara... can you add the new ladies to the CNY Knottie sticky... pretty please??)

Well...I posted on one of  these a while ago...but I never made my own post!  So, for those of you who didn't see it...

Hi, my name's Kadell, my FI is John.  Our wedding date is October 15, 2011.  Ceremony at Masonic Home and reception at The Beeches.  So far my checks include:Reception hall, chapel, limo, favors, dress, BM dresses, MOB dress, RD site (but no food yet), STD's, DJ, florist, baker, photographer...blah, blah, blah.  At the moment I am working on jewelry (for me and BM) and invitation wording.  I am 31, a nurse, and from Utica.  And he's a fireman, 36, and also from Utica.

I know I have posted a few times, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask me!  :)

Sorry to disappoint...no history with the crazy name...I wish there was...it would make for a better story!!!  Just really creative/cruel (depending on how you look at it) parents!!

Oh, I pitty you...nursing school is rough!  I actually work at an inner city school right now...so technically pediatric nursing.  I like it, but my heart is with teaching so I am finishing my associates this semester in Childhood Ed. and will be headed to Utica College next semester for my Bachelor's in that.  Not that I will be able to find a job in teaching with this economy...but oh well!

Lol... I would just make up a wisked cool story about the name.  It's neat though.

I did a rotation in peds last semester and didn't like it as much as I thought I would.  Loved the kids, hated the parents.

Good luck with school!  I have a few friends who are teachers here and they love the job, but have had a really tough time actually finding work... now may be facing layoffs.  Maybe by the time you finish your degree, things will turn around.

    Hello!

I've posted on here a couple times but I'll say hello again and maybe Kara will put me on the sticky!  ;-)    I'm Emily and my fiance Is Vibol.  We are getting married August 20th and 21st.  Vibol is Cambodian so we are also doing 6 Cambodian ceremonies at his parents house on Saturday and then doing the "American" wedding at Belhurst in Geneva, NY on Sunday.

We live in Minnesota right now but Vibol is originally from Webster, NY.     I've enjoyed reading the chatter on the boards and emierose has been a big help with all things Geneva!  So thanks ladies!  :-)

Thanks for the well wishes with school.  If you ever have any nursing questions feel free to ask me! Good luck to you as well with school..and don't worry nursing as a job is usually way better than it appears to be in school!

HI, I'm Meagan and my FI is Al.  Our date is Spet 29, 2012, we're getting married in Geneva, not sure about ceremony yer but our reception anyway is booked at Belhurst Castle.

I am an "office manager" for lack of a job title at a communications company, he works on black hawk helicopters (doing all the avionics and electronics) We will both be 30 this summer and have 2 crazy dogs, a Golden Retriever Macdougal and a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Delilah.

Im excited just trying to get ideas now, but most of my planning is on the back burner until we get house stuff situated.  We are landlords( though currently tenant-less) we bought a duplex last august and moved into half with intentions of working on our apt while liiving there and waiting out the (horrible it turns out) tenants' lease that came with the building.  Now we have 2 apt both patially gutted/under contstruction.  We are way over our heads with renovations at the moment.

i'm a semi  newbie i guess, just never this board, i'm usually more on the philly and northeastern PA boards and even that isn't consistent.

My name is Gina, FI's name is Rafael (Rafi for short).
our wedding is Sunday Sept. 4, 2011 (Labor day weekend) in Scranton, PA at Lackawanna Station.
I'm Italian and grew up Roman Catholic going to a catholic school for many years, FI grew up Orthodox Jewish and even lived in Israel for 10 years. We are both non practicing now, but share the same basic principals of religion, mostly leaning towards buddhism, just being a good person. BUT, fi's parents still live in Israel and still practice, which is why we had to have the wedding on a Sunday (b/c of their religion, they cant do things on a Friday, or Saturday night, until a certain time).

We are both not from the area but met here while in college  and have stayed here ever since.  We are looking to move out to either the philly area, or somewhere in Florida by sometime next summer.

I'm currently a TA in OCM BOCES, but cannot see myself doing this for life and want to go back to school for either physical therapy, or career counseling at the college level.
FI wants to go back to school to be a dietician.
We both are laid back, fun loving people (being goofy together and randomly dancing) and looking forward to the big party of our special day.
On our wedding day, we will have been friends for 10 years, and dating for 7, i joke with FI that he has no choice but to marry me after seven years, b/c it'll be common law marriage anyway. :)
    wow, sorry that's a lot, yep.... i'm italian :)

Hello Ladies!  Meagan - I'm happy to see another Belhurst bride!  Smile    Thanks Kara for adding me to the note.  And Monica - what a nice idea to learn about everybody!

I'm happy to share about the Cambodian ceremonies.  We will do 6 ceremonies:  calling of the ancestors, groom's processional (It's like a parade bringing gifts to my parents as a dowry), a hair cutting ceremony, a knot-tying ceremony (guests tie strings around our writsts), a monks blessing and a passing of the blessings (from married couples to us.)  Typically it could last up to a week but it will be shortened to just 1 day.

We will wear traditional Cambodian costumes that are very colorful and are supposed to resemble royalty.  We will change costumes probably 4 times.

The food will all be traditional Cambodian foods, so my family is in for something different!  One of Vibol's favorites is a pork-filled rice-flour roll wrapped in banana leaves.  They do meat skewers and papaya salads and such.  It's all very different.  I've been to two of his cousins weddings already, so at least I've seen it before.

Monica, Alyssa, Bridget & Kara - can you tell us a bit about your weddings?  I'm sure you introduced yourselves awhile ago but I'd love to hear what you're planning.

Meagan- that sounds really cool (especially the food part... I love food).  Thanks for sharing.  Can't wait to hear even more about it.

As for me... let's see.  Well... I'm Monica, my fiance is Kevin.  Our wedding is May 28 with the ceremony at our church in Syracuse (full Catholic mass) and the reception at Glenora winery on Seneca Lake.  This has been quite the logistical endeavor (80 minute distance), but hopefully with party buses, food, music and alcohol our guests will be content to sit back and enjoy the ride.

I grew up in Orlando, FL (still don't know exactly how or why I ended up in Upstate NY) spent 8 years in the Marine Corps and traveled to all the yucky parts of the globe.  Now I live here in Syracuse, work at the VA Medical Center downtown and go to nursing school at Crouse at night.

Kevin and I met in the Marine Corps on our last deployment to Djibouti, Africa (yes, that's a real place... and I totally cracked up and thought they were effing with me when they told me that's where I was going).  We go engaged on April 24 last year at Miles winery after dating for only a year.

Wedding wise- pretty much everything is booked, done, paid for... just waiting for the big day to get here.  Our color is Lapis (deep, dark purple) with accents of ivory/white and silver.  We are pretty much keeping with a vineyard theme and will have a wine tasting for our guests during the coctail hour (if they would like to participate).  Umm... I had one helluva time finding my dress, well documented through weekly whining posts on TK.  I still haven't ordered my flowers.... meh... I'll get around to it someday.

I get snippy sometimes... can be very sarcastic, but I like to help out whenever I possibly can, so try to take my comments with a grain of salt... unfortunately all the computer nerds in the world have still not been able to create a sarcasm font.

I guess that's about it for me.

Oh- and (as I have been gushing for the past 2 days)- we just bought our first home in Liverpool.... where I get lost everytime I drive through.... so this could get interesting.

Nice to meet all the new girls and quiet lurkers.

    A little about me.
My name is Alyssa, my fiance's name is Chad. We met in 2007 (4 years in June) and dated long distance for the first year. I was living in New Hampshire and he was here. I moved to be with him in 2008.

We got engaged on August 12, 2010.  We live in New Hartford. We are getting married on September 24, 2011 at The Beeches in Rome. Both the ceremony and reception will be there. We're having a Presbyterian service.

Our colors are Marine Blue (like a navy blue) and Lapis (like Monica). We have the photographer, DJ, cake baker, florist, working on ceremony musician, officiant and I'm working on invitations right now. If you want more wedding information, you can check my bio that's in my siggy.

I am a baseball fan and right now am frustrated with my team. Yell  (0-6) ?!?!?!

Welcome to the board! I hope you all post often! Smile

Hey ladies! Im Bridgett, my FIs name is Josh. Im 25, he's 26. Hes an Iron worker and I work for Syr Univ. Im also a part-time student and starting my 20hr/wk internship in the fall. Yikes!

Ive lived in Syracuse (Jamesville) my whole life (cant wait to get out). Josh grew up in Central Sq. and moved to Jamesville the summer before freshman yr. Thats where we met but were not friends.

In July 08, my sister was MOH for Josh's stepbrother's wedding and we both went without dates (although I was in a relationship) and we really hit it off. I played hard to get, he called me the next day for a date and within a week we were together. I moved to Philly 2-3 weeks later and moved back 3 months after that. Approx 3 months after that we were living together. Josh proposed to me in July 09 (just shy of a yr) over a pizza. "Will You Marry Me?" spelled out in mushrooms with my family there.

Wedding: Josh and I are getting married May 21. We've both very proud of the Irish in us so our colors are Clover Green and Orange (no specific shade). We're having a cupcake tower with little shamrocks on them. Head Table, not sweetheart! Approx 150 people. The ceremony and reception are at the same location (indoor/outdoor) Wysockis in Cicero. We have quite a bit of heavy drinkers invited so we opted for an early day in hopes that the drinking is toned down a bit. Im very proud of my 10G budget which I have somehow managed to narrow to no more than 8G! All I want is something simple but fun! The only details Im really killing myself over are the things that would make it fun!

Hi!  Thought I'd add myself here too even though I'm about to hit the official not-newbie mark on TK.

My name is Sarah and FI's name is Chris.  We're getting married on Sept 24, 2011.  We got engaged in July 2010.  We moved to Ithaca last August so Chris could attend grad school here for the next two years.  We used to live in NYC, although I'm originally from Virginia.  We met in late 2008 and are both 29 years old.  I used to be (still am?) an actress and commercial casting director.  Now I am the low person on the totem pole in a university admissions office.

Wedding-wise, we're getting married at the Fontainebleau Inn which is halfway between Ithaca and Watkins Glen.  I'm so excited about the location; it is beautiful and I couldn't ask for better!   We will be having a Protestant ceremony (FI's Catholic, but I'm not) at a chapel on the grounds of the inn.  Our colors are royal blue and yellow.  We have all of our vendors booked, but I still need to do a lot!  I haven't been working on much lately but the wedding is always on my mind.

Thaks for the compliment, but....trust me...unique names are HIGHLY overated!!  :) All those years of misprounonciations, misspellings....(I would cringe every time we had a substitue teacher!!!)  What I would do for a simple, common name!
  • edited December 2011
Thats funny. My name isnt super common but if its pronounced wrong you're an idiot. Haha. But I always killed for a unique name. Josh is not so much into it, but we've agreed on Trinity and Gemma if we have a girl.

Oh chit. I just said Trinity with Josh's last name and it sounds bad, like a mouthful. Dang it.

Hello! My name is Lauren and my FI is Mike. We got engaged on a trip to Hawaii last October and I've been "lurking" on TK ever since. We live in Rochester, which isn't really "central" NY, but we're getting married in the finger lakes.  I have no checks so far since our location and date are still undecided. We're leaning toward May 26, 2012 at The Inn at Glenora, but since they just changed wedding planners there, we're waiting it out a bit.
FI is in the M.D. Ph.D. program at U of Rochester, and I work in the education department of the museum. I'm originally from western PA and he's from CT. We met in undergrad in Pittsburgh and have been together since 2004. We live together and have the most adorable chow-keeshund mix dog-child and a diabolical cat.

Abbe has been around for about a year and has learned a lot from Sherry.  Obviously, she doesn't have the years of experience that Sherry did, but she has been really great to work with so far.  My wedding is coming up in a little more than a month (yikes) so I can give you the full scoop after, but I really wouldn't worry.  If you love Glenora (like we did) and can make it work with you budget (which is the hardest part)... it's a dream venue.

    Hi Everyone!

I'm a little late to the game here, but I thought I'd post anyway.  I've posted a few times but haven't officially made it to the "sticky" at the top of the board.

My name's Liz, and my fiance Brandon and I live in Buffalo right now.  I'm 27 and in dental school.  Brandon's 28 and studying electrical engineering; both of us at UB.  I'm origianlly from Baldwinsville, and he's originally from Corning so we're getting married in Canandaigua at Bristol Harbour on July 7, 2012 (splitting the distance...sorta).  We just booked our photographer and engagement session (May 16!!!) and I couldn't be more excited.

Thanks for all the great wedding-related posts that keep me entertained.  I'm also glad to have some info on you regular-posting ladies.  I feel caught-up now!

Hi everyone, my name is Rachael and my fiance is Chris. We are getting married October 8, 2011. Our wedding will take place in Geneva, and we are both life long Geneva residents. We actually just bought our first house together last week and got a new puppy, a Papillon we named Westley (I love the movie "The Princess Bride").
So far wedding wise, we have all the major planning taken care of, except we are still working on a florist. Right now we are focusing on the moving and getting the house situated, and hopefully I'll have some time to dedicate to the wedding soon, but I usually come to TK a couple of times a week to check for new ideas.

Hi everyone! I posted here a while back once but figured I should introduce myself again since planning in underway and I'll probably be on here all the time now. haha SmileMy name is Melissa and my Fiance's name is Mike. We live together in Syracuse in a house we bought together a couple of months ago. We just started looking at venues and figuring out where we might want to get married. Once we book a venue we will figure out an exact date but we definitely want to get married May 2012 (anniversary). I would love input from you girls about venues you visited and liked AND venues that you visited and had a bad experience with (so I can stay far away haha). I look forward to getting to know you all better and hearing about your weddings!

I just found this thread (thanks Bridgett), so I'm a little late!  I used to post a lot on the National boards, but more recently discovered the Central New York board.  I don't think I ever made a formal introduction, although I post here often.

My name is Athena, my FI is Marc.  I'm 29 and he's 31.  We're getting married August 12, 2011 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church and our reception is at Daniele's.  Our colors are cobalt blue and black and we're having a peacock feather theme!  We live in New York Mills with our beautiful miniature pinscher, Minnie.  Marc and I are actually both in the education field.  He's a health teacher.  I'm a certified elementary teacher currently subbing in four districts, looking for a permanent position.  I also tend bar on weekends at a restaurant.

It was really interesting to read/learn more about all of you!

[QUOTE]Sorry to disappoint...no history with the crazy name...I wish there was...it would make for a better story!!!
