I attended my friend's wedding yesterday and it was a blast. I wanted to share a few things that I thought could have been a bit different.
The ceremony was perfect. It went exactly as planned and was beautiful. The only thing I noticed was that when the bride and groom said their vows, the minister would say the vows first, but didn't point the mic in their direction when it was time for them to repeat the vows. So it was very hard to hear them say their vows.
At the reception, after dinner was over, there was at least a half hour when there was nothing going on. The same slow music played during dinner was still playing and it seemed like a lot of people were antsy to mingle or get on the dance floor instead of being stuck at their tables. I would have opened up the dance floor right after dinner.
The reception was held at a restaurant, in which the layout was a circle. Because of the layout, the dj was very good at announcing when everyone needed to come to the dance floor for the bridal party entrance and later for special dances. He also announced when the photo booth was open, and when there were 15 minutes left to take pictures at the end of the night before the photo booth closed. However, I don't recall him announcing that the desert table (it was in lieu of a traditional cake) was open for guests. But everyone figured it out eventually because it was situated near the photo booth.
I was so afraid of stepping on the bride's dress. It was bustled, but there was still a small train and I was nervous for her when she was dancing around other people. I'm not too familiar with bustles, but I would not have wanted to keep the little train after the ceremony.
There was some good music played for dancing, but it picked up kind of late. Dinner didn't get served until 8pm and the dance floor didn't open up until close to 10pm. The music was varied to appeal to all guests, and the dj took requests which was nice. There weren't a lot of people on the dance floor though, except when the dj played the cupid shuffle and the hustle. Everyone flocked to the dance floor which I found hilarious. There's nothing like being told how to dance to make people feel more comfortable. Those people promptly left the dance floor when the group dances ended though.
