Be prepared for his commentary. I went with a friend for her fitting and he doesnt hold back. I tried to use him for mine, but he didnt have time in his schedule for my dress. Good luck!
I am using him, and just got back from my 2nd fitting. He's amazing. Yes, he's outspoken, but I love that about him. My dress is very intricate AND I bought it a size bigger than I probably should have, but he's doing a great job making it fit me perfectly. I have my last fitting 1 1/2 weeks before the fitting just for final touches and to show my DOC how to do my bustle.
I think he's worth it for the cost, especially if your dress has lots of detail (ruching, beading, etc.)
I didn't use him for alterations (bought my dress in NYC and had it altered here), but I did use him for prep work right before the wedding, and he did a fantastic job. He's at a higher price-point than some of the other people doing alterations in the area, but I knew that he had worked with a lot of couture gowns in the past, and I wanted that peace of mind.
Also, ditto kel about the commentary. I personally found it fun and endearing, but be prepared for the outspokeness (and the incredibly nifty southern accent ).
I've used Tony King for multiple bridesmaid dresses and my wedding gown when my turn finally came. He is wonderful. I love his commentary and always look forward to my dress fittings. He literally took a bridesmaid dress that I sobbed when I first tried on and turned it into the best possible version of that bridesmaid dress for my curvy body.
Highly recommend. Book ahead. And don't be spooked by the elevator.
