Help!! Please?

So we're getting married Nov. 7th but not going on a honeymoon till sometime between Feb-April. We cannot think of a single place in the U.S. that will be warm enough to enjoy the beach or a place that wouldn't risk getting snowed in. Even Florida will still be in the 60's in March. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Re: Help!! Please?

  • So leave the States? Seriously, why isn't this an option? Or go sking...
  • We're trying to keep a smaller budget on the honeymoon b/c we're saving for a house. I would love to go skiing but he is worried about getting snowed in at that time of year.
  • There are always good deals to Vegas ;)
  • Haha! He suggested Vegas. My response was, "B/c that screams romance" lol. Vegas is just too much of a party city for me to consider it a HM destination. No offense. Just NMS.
  • going out of the US doesn't necessarily mean it is more expensive...my cheaper vacations were to the islands and to Mexico...you can get awesome deals for Mexico AIs.

  • We did Asian cities on our HM, so I think any city can be as romantic as you make it ;) If you're dead set on a beach, however, why not Mexico? There are tons of deals that include airfare, etc.
  • Mexico would be fine with me but it scares my fiance for some reason. Too many horror stories I think.
  • How about a cruise? My FI and I just got back from a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas. For the both of us including tax it was only about $650 and all your food is included.
  • I agree with pp's. A lot of times it is more expensive to stay in the US because there are no all inclusive. By the time you pay for flights the hotel and your meals you probably could have gone to Mexico. I would check out different sites like Orbitz, etc that have vacation promotions and also look for additional coupon codes online to save money. If you are set on staying in the US then I would travel closer to April you have a better chance of the weather being warmer. HTH
  • Well tell your FI that he's being ridiculous. You're probably safer in a tourist area in Mexico than you are in your hometown. Oh, and I live in Mexico and I haven't been killed or died of the swine flu yet ;) And I don't even live in a tourist area.
  • You live in Mexico?? Nice. That would be awesome :)The reason we would like to stay in the U.S. is because we have access to a time share that we can stay pretty much anywhere for a week for around $400.
  • And Hawai'i isn't an option b/c of the airfare I take it?
  • Hawaii would be awesome but yea, airfare would be crazy!
  • PR is in the US. We went for a weekend in February a few years ago, it was really inexpensive, but not as cheap as Jamaica. We're looking into a weekend cruise this winter to Bahamas. There seem to be good deals. With March, just be careful of the place you choose. You'll run up against college spring break.
  • Im not sure if you've been to FL or not....but its def not in the 60s in March. It's barely in the 60's sometimes in Jan.
  • I livei n Florida and I must say that i highly doubt that it will be this cold at that time. Usually we are still in the mid 70s and 80s around March. Hope this helps!
  • so you can only exchange the timeshare in the US?

  • Our cheapest vacations have been to the Caribbean.  It cost us far more to go to Philadelphia for 5 nights than it did to visit the Bahamas for 7.It sounds like your FI is pretty ridgid (Vegas isn't romantic, he's afraid of Mexico, etc).  Where do YOU want to go?  Its your honeymoon too.
  • Check out Puerto Rico.  It is the most affordable Caribbean island that I found in my research for an upcoming vacation.  And it's still in the US, if you are feeling less adventurous.  Try cheapcaribbean.com to get a sense of flight & hotel prices and see if it is in your budget.  I felt that we got a great deal.x

  • oh and I went to FL in March a couple years ago, and we definitely spent time swimming and sunning on the beach.  It wasn't cold!  I would double check your temperature data.

  • I also want to chime in and say that Florida is definitely warmer than the 60's in March/April! Especially the further south you go. I've been the Keys in March before and it was very warm. The sun was so intense I got the worst sunburn in my entire life! March/April is actually a great time to enjoy the beaches in South Florida/the Keys as it is comfortably warm but not as sweltering hot as the summer time.

  • Im not sure where you heard it was 60 in Florida. FI and I went to Jacksonville in  Jan and even went swimming, laid on the beach and he got a tan.

  • We're getting married in Savannah, Ga next fall.  We went to meet with vendors in mid-April this year and were wearing shorts & t-shirts and sweating.  Savannah is gorgeous and it wouldn't cost a fortune to spend a few days there.
  • hold on...Florida is going to be in the 60s in March??? Is hell freezing over?! I live in South Florida and I can tell you that that would be some serious crazy global warming crap and I guarantee you that March would actually be the perfect time of year to visit. It will be hot, but not too unbearable.

  • 'Nother South Floridian here. It's very unusual for it to be that cold down here in March. Maybe at night, but definately not during the day. I work at a hotel and never have any complaints from vacationer that it's too cold in March. HTH!

  • Please don't rule out Vegas. There are many things to go see and do besides party kinds of things. DH and I went last year. He had planned on proposing out there but did it the night before we left. We went out there at the end of April and the weather was great. We saw a magic show, a traditional Vegas show girl performance, saw an improv comedy act, watched Circque Del Soliel (not sure I spelled it right) and basically went sightseeing. It was a blast and minimal alcohol was involved.
