SO we have decided to find a good state within the US that would be fun with alot of activities for us to do. We live in Virginia beach, VA. We are getting married in October. But we are drawing blanks on gd cities/states to visit where we will have alot to do. Please felllow brides to be please help us with suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thanks soo much!!!

Re: Good US honeymoon spots???

  • Well, what do you like to do?  There are plenty of fun US destinations but without knowing your interests we can't really recommend much.

  • What do you want?  Beach?  Hiking?  Shopping?  Nightlife?  Culture?
  • Well we are up for beach or no beach but we want museums and shopping and just fun site seeing
  • Washington D.C is the first thing that popped into my head because you mentioned museums. I haven't been there in October, so I don't know what the weather will be like. New York of course would be fun-lots of museums and shopping lol (if you dont mind the higher price tags) Seattle is also really cool too, if you don't mind the rain and overall gloomy weather. Those are all I can think of right now, hope this helps! Let us know if you need aany more suggestions!

  • Dc is always gd we r going there in July. We were thinking new York or Chicago!! But I love DC as well thanks for the suggestions. Keep em coming! Lol
  • Chicago is great.  If you haven't been I really recommend it (and since you were thinking about it)  Its got a lot of good museums, great food and just fun things to do.

  • Well thanks for the Chicago info and not to sound rude but I have used "text speak" on here plenty and haven't heard any negative comments but I will not use it on this chat anymore since it seems to bug you!
  • I second (or third) Chicago. Living near there, I've gone there my whole life and never got sick of it. There's always something new to do. The beach might be a tad chilly in Oct (but they do have one near Lake Michigan!) but they have museums galore--art, science, history, etc. Shedd's Aquarium is neat even for adults (I still love going there but I'd buy tix in advance esp. for a weekend b/c there are normally lines out the door). You've got an endless amount of cool restaurants and bars and awesome shopping. If you want more specifics ever, just let me know.

  • Surely there is somewhere you have always wanted to go in the U.S. Go there.

  • With only 3 days to take a trip, I'd stay local rather than spend a lot of time in the air on in a car.  How about Charlottesville (there's a lot of local hiking, there's T. Jefferson's home, lots of good restaurants near UVA)?  Or which cities can you fly to from your nearest airport that are within 2 hours' flight?  Charlestown, SC?  Charlotte, NC?
  • then keep doing the text speak.  It really actually doesn't bother me like it does a lot of girls around here.  I was trying to be nice and let you know before someone reamed you for it.

She wasn't being rude, she was being nice by letting you know what others are thinking.  In fact, warning a newbie about something they are doing is much nicer than making fun of your post or refusing to respond.  Using full and complete words is not that difficult and is much easier to understand.  That being said, I recommend Boston.

  • ahh Boston is another good one brilibby! I want to go there sooo bad. Its on my list :-)

  • We are going to CA (Napa) but with only 3 days the flying would cut into your time too much. I would find somewhere close so you don't waste a lot of time on travel. VA has a decent amount of wineries that you could maybe stay at a nearby B&B? Williamsburg? DC? St Michaels Island in MD?
  • There are a lot of areas along the coast that you could look into, you might enjoy Savannah/Hilton Head.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

  • NYC! But Im biased LOL Shopping, museums, tours, times square, broadway shows, the works all within 23 square miles (or something like that LOL)
  • New Orleans!! (biased)

Tons of shopping, excellent food, great night life, incredible music scene, National WWII Museum, Wax Museum, Haunted History tours, Bayou swamp boat tours, just lots and lots to do.
  • Ditto Chicago!! I love it here!!
  • The Poconos in Pennsylvania has an awesome honeymoon resort that is all inclusive (minus alcohol).  I am thinking about doing this.  It includes a lot of activities too.

My parents did this for their honeymoon so that is the only thing kind of weirding me out, haha
  • Thanks guys. You have given me a lot to think about... I am going to research all of these places today since I have time and see what the fiance says about it.. I personally am great with New York.lol. I love shopping there. But we will see. Thanks brides or bride-to-bes....
  • We are headed to Chicago for our mini-moon next week!  Taking the train and staying at The Drake.  So looking forward to a little getaway with out a lot of travel time or planning!

There is a great night life along with a lot of things to do during the day. I hope you find something that works for the both of you!

  • Gatlinburg is great. Tons of the stuff you're looking for.
  • We are going to DC :) SO excited! We are also getting married in October!

  • we are getting married in October aswell.. We love DC, but we are going to DC in july for a weekend. and tht is only a 4hr drive for us so we can do DC anytime. But all of you have given us really great suggestions. So now we just have to figure it out.decisions...decisions....
  • If you only have three days for you honeymoon, I would go to Austin,Texas.  There's a lot of fun things to do there, and you can find really gret deals on hotels.  Theres also a great mix of things to do, everything form hiking to nightlife is avaliable in Austin.
  • I would recommend touring the Mammoth Cave in Kentucky! It wouldn't be a bad drive from Virginia and they have TONS of different cave tours of varying lengths and intensities. My husband and I went on one that lasted six hours and involved crawling around, rock climbing, etc.but we also went on another that was only 2 hrs long and you  walked with shorts and a tshirt on.
Also it's a tourist area so there are a lot of fun attractions, like the Kentucky Action Park. Horse back riding, mountain sliding, go-karts, those fun pictures you take in western outfits, etc.
I would suggest staying at Serenity Hill Bed and Breakfast because they have an AMAZING suite with a king size bed and a huge jetted tub.
  • If you like history and want museums and sight seeing, I recommend Savannah, GA. It's about an 8 hours drive from VA Beach but you could always fly there through Charlotte or Atlanta. Hubby and I met there in college and we go back as often as we can. In October the weather is still fairly warm and the southern hospitality is awesome. The food is great and there's lots of little "Mom & Pop" stores for shopping. If you like ghost tours and such, there's plenty of those (even a haunted pub crawl).
  • You guys are making this harder for me naming all of these great sounding places I have never thought of. I am sure we will pick one of these fantastic places.
