Nice resorts on the east coast?

The Fiance and I are getting married this October, but we have yet to decide a place to go on for our HM. We live in Virginia, practically on the border of North Carolina, actually. We want to stay within the United States. I was thinking about going to a beach somewhere in NC, SC, GA, or maybe even FL.. The budget is very tight and we can only stay about 3 nights because of my nursing school schedule. (Will plan a nice anniversary trip later).. We do not want to go to Myrtle Beach, SC because we go every year.
Anyways, my question is, does anyone know of any nice resorts or hotels on the beach along the east coast? I want to feel like we are on a honeymoon and have great accommodations and maybe all inclusive? Idk if all inclusive is strickly for resorts islands or something, or if there are any at regular beaches?

Thanks!

Re: Nice resorts on the east coast?

  • I've heard Amelia Island, FL is nice.  It seems there are three resorts there, including a Ritz Carlton.  I think there are nice resorts on the Georgia coast as well.
  • Look into the Kiawah (spelling?) area near Charleston SC. I was in Charleston SC for business a while back and seem to recall they had nicer resort type hotels.

In Florida, the Sanibel Island area is lovely, on the Gulf of Mexico (west coast). Very tropical, the beaches are glistening white from the broken shells.
  • Destin, FL is beautiful! No all-inclusives I don't think. You can search on VRBO.com for nice rentals.
  • Ritz Carlton, Amelia Island is just FABULOUS. One of my favorite vacations. Recently stayed at LaPlaya Resort in Naples, FL. Outstanding service and a nice beach, I could definitely see it working as a honeymoon spot. Never been to the Georgia coastline, but Tybee Island is supposed to be nice. And the Cloister at Sea Island, GA is a top US resort and would probably fit the romance bill.
  • Hilton Head Island, Charleston, Sullivan's Island, and Isle of Palms are all beautiful places in South Carolina and you could def. find a resort on the beach.

Naples, FL is gorgeous as well.

  • Safety Harbor Resort & Spa in Safety Harbor, FL is great. It's a short ride from Tampa airport. It's relaxing and lovely, and in a cute little town, though you don't need to leave the hotel if you don't want. It has a great pool, spa & restaurant... the beds are unbelievably comfortable!... and it's on Tampa Bay, so you can dolphin watch from the dock :o)
