Re: royal caribbean honeymoon

  • Royal Caribbean is awesome, you will have a great time. We just went on one with them this past March (that's when we got engaged!) and it was great! Great food, tons of stuff to do, nice people, I just dont think you will be disappointed.

As far as what to bring - if you have never been on a cruise, its a good idea to bring motion sickness tablets. My FI also carried a backpack around all of the islands that held our money, water, sunscreen, etc.

    Have fun!
  • We also got engaged on a Royal Caribbean cruise!
We absolutely love cruising with RC... have been 3 times & will never take another cruise line other than RC.
As for tips ~ bring a lot of ziploc bags ~ we always find 1,000 uses for them!
You don't need towels ~ the cruiseline provides them & will even let you bring them off the ship ~ just don't forget to return them because they WILL charge you!
Make reservations for anything you need to early ~ excursions, dinner at one of the restaurants on board, ice show, etc because they WILL book and you don't want to miss out!
    Have so much fun!!!!

Being married is a real thriller! =)

  • The pp's had great suggestions, I thought I would just add that you should bring some nice sundresses for dinner and a cocktail dress for formal night. Usually the days "at sea" are formal nights in the dining room and some people go all out, but a nice cocktail dress or LBD for you and a suit or a button down shirt and tie for your FI is fine.
  • I went did a Western Mediterranean cruise last year with RC, and I loved it. (We got engaged while in Florence, so that probably helped!) The nice thing about a cruise is that you can have as much or as little of the "cheese" as you want, so there's something for everyone.

I would suggest visiting the discussion boards at cruisecritic.com if this is your first cruise, or even just your first time with RC. Last year's trip was my first cruise and first trip to Europe, and I can't even tell you how helpful that website was. I saved us bajillions of dollars by planning my own excursions using the wonderfully helpful and detailed advice of the people on that board - they are a very friendly bunch.

The best tip I got on that board was the RC has a "price protection" policy. If the price an identical room to your goes down in price before you sail, they'll refund your money. We even booked with a travel agent, not directly through RC, and we got a free upgrade to a balcony room (we had originally booked just a room with a window) and something like $80 back. And if you can afford it, I highly recommend a room with a balcony!

    Happy planning.

  • FI and i got engaged on our Royal Caribbean Bahamas cruise last Aug (we won a free cruise which we are going on this Aug to Western Caribbean). Bring an extra empty bag in case you run out of space for the souvenirs.

Oh and make sure you call your credit card company before you leave so they don't freeze your account for foreign charges.

[QUOTE]Do remember that you will be in hurricane season.  Buy trip insurance!  Chances are that you will be fine, but don't risk it!

This is definitely good advice, but the great thing about being on a cruise ship is that the captain will re-route the ship if there are any storms. You may not see the islands that were on your original itinerary but you'll still see beautiful Caribbean islands and be in good weather. This happened to my DH once when he was on a cruise with his parents. They missed two of the stops on their itineraries, but they stopped at two other islands instead to stay away from the bad weather.
  • I LOVE Royal Caribbean cruises. I've been on 7 so far to all different places. They are sooo much fun, tons of stuff to do. Bring bathing suits, casual clothes, if you are staying on the ship for a week you will have 2 formal nights that you will need dresses for. Bring nice shoes, sandals, and sneakers. When you go to the islands you may do a lot of walking. Bring books to read for laying on the beach if you are into that. You will need toiletries (spelled wrong i think) because they dont provide you with much. All of the food is included but you will need cash for drinks and the tips for your room attendant and maire'd at dinner. They give you a booklet in your room to assist you in how to tip. You will also need cash if you want to buy gifts and stuff. Each day you will find a booklet left on your bed that explains the next days activities and maps of the ship etc. Rooms can be small but you really dont spend too much time in them. The shows after dinner are amazing!!! The pools are great..basically everything is great. I always have a blast. Have FUN!!!!
  • We are going on a RC Southern Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon.  This will be my second RC cruise and I like it very much.  I would recommend.
