Convert a dress to tealength?

So I picked up my dress yesterday and I really like it, but I think that I would love it if it was tea length.  I'm just not sure if I will ruin the dress entirely if I attempt to get it altered somewhere.  It just is a little poofy and overwhelming to me right now.  Maybe when I get the final alterations I will feel like it fits better.  It has a train that is going to be bustled so I'm not sure if the back would be able to be made to look normal as a tealength.  I will try and upload some photos.  Please let me know what you think!

I will work on the photo stuff (not very good at this).  It's a Priscilla of Boston Sophie style.

I tried on Sophie, it's such a beautiful style. Have you tried it on without a crinoline? It would be less poofy and more flowy and you may like it better. A good seamstress can tell you if will look right if you cut it. Reading this post, I don't think you are 100% sure you will like it even if you make it tea length. I'd rather see you try to sell this one first, because once you alter it you can't do anything about it. If you still don't like it you won't be able to sell it!

I think I've just always loved the tealength look!  Plus my wedding changed from a big 200+ person to only 13 guests so I fill a little silly with the dress being so formal.  I think the tea length might make it a little more casual.

My only advice for that is to ask a seamstress. Some dresses are cut a certain way based on the length.  I was a bridesmaid in a wedding very recently and we had our dresses altered from floor length to knee length and my seamstress had to make many other alterations to preserve the shape the dress was supposed to have. I'm not sure if I'm explaining it right, but I suggest asking a seamstress.

I love tea length dresses too! Especially from Priscilla, they have sooo many cute short dresses. On a side note, don't be afraid to wear the ball gown even if you only have 13 guests. We only have 30 guests and I'm wearing Maggie Sottero Monalisa Royale! If the dress makes you feel beautiful wear it anyways! I do think this one would look cute shorter though, since it doesn't have alot of beading/embroidery and the design isn't too complicated.

I love PofB, she's one of my favorite designers.  I wore one of her gowns back in the 70's when I got married. The Sophie is a poofy dress.  It's going to be that way even if you shorten it, it's just going to be short and poofy rather than long and poofy.  I truly think once you have it altered to fit and have it on with all your accessories, you'll fall in love with it.  It's a beautiful gown.

Thanks for all of the responses!  I am going to ask a seamstress and see what they think of the idea.   I really love the idea of showing off my blue shoes!  If you click on my profile you can see them:)

So I told Priscilla of Boston about my idea and they suggested I come in and try the sample dress on again.  They are going to pin it up to make sure I like it before I cut my own.  I am really excited!
