Adventurous & Beachy!

Ok, some help, please!  We are super open-minded about WHERE to honeymoon, but need recommendations!  We do know exactly WHAT we'd like to be doing and seeing!

- Love the ocean, something beachy!
- Adventurous things to do, especially ATV tours and snorkeling.  White water rafting would be great (we've looked at Costa Rica), anything fun though, we don't want to just be lounging!
- We're getting married in New Jersey, but return home for a party in Arizona where we live, shorter travel times would help!
- 5-6 nights
- Budget around $3000, can go up or down
- Prefer all inclusive
- Prefer adults Only

Anyone have a honeymoon fitting most or all of this criteria and would love to suggest?  It would be so appreciated!

Thanks!
Ashlei

Re: Adventurous & Beachy!

  • We had similar "criteria" for our honeymoon - a mix of adventure and beach time and a budget of around $3000-$4000. We decided to do an Eastern Caribbean cruise out of San Juan, PR through Royal Caribbean. Ours is eight nights, but I'm sure you could find cruises that last five or six nights. It was in our budget, and we figured this way we will get a good mix of seeing a variety of islands (because we couldn't decide on just one - this way we get to see seven!). We've been looking at excursions, and we're planning to do things like swimming with turtles in Barbados, taking an ATV trip in Antigua, hiking a volcano and swimming in waterfalls in St. Lucia, etc. We're going to be in PR for three nights before the cruise, too, and are doing the Bacardi Rum distillery tour there and going on a rainforest tour. Plus spending plenty of time laying around on the beach, of course.

    Good luck! :)

  • I thought I would say hello to a fellow Phoenix bride!

From the criteria you mentioned, I would say the Mexico would be your best bet.  You can most definitley find a nice all-inclusive for 5-6 nights with flights from PHX for $3k or under in Cabo, Puerto Vallarta and Cancun/Playa del Carmen area.

I think Costa Rica would fit the bill for you guys really nicely!  We are going this summer and have a great time planning our trip.  If you went for a week, you could probably do 2 areas.

The place I'm most excited about is Lapa Rios - gorgeous accommodations on a 1000 acre private wildlife preserve, great food and TONS of wildlife.  When I asked our travel agent about it, he said that by staying here for part of our trip, we wouldn't even really "need" to go anywhere else in the country.  I'm definitely excited about the prospect of waking up to monkeys on our deck! The price here includes all meals and two tours.

It sounds like you've looked into it some already, but there's also the cloud forests, mountains, volcanoes, beautiful beaches, tons of activities.

We are also staying at Arenal Nayara, El Silencio Lodge and Oxygen Jungle Villas, just to give you some more ideas!  My girlfriend also visited Arenas del Mar and loved it.  Good luck and congrats!
