eyebrow waxing

So, I just got my eyebrows and lip waxed as a trial for the wedding and I'm glad it's only a trial because the freaking lady burned my eyelids with her hot wax!  It's been seven hours since I got it done and it looks like I took lipstick and used it as eyeshadow.  Plus, it burns and stings still and my lip is puffy and red.  I'm so pissed.  I'm going there tomorrow to demand a refund.  I went to Shear Bliss in Heathrow in case you all are wondering.  I really hope it goes away very very soon because I feel really stupid.  I have two months till the wedding and I hope to goodness the burn is healed by then.

Anyhow, my question is..... do you guys know of any good estheticians who are really good at doing eyebrow and lip waxing?  I don't want this to happen again. Preferably in the Lake Mary area but I could go other places.

Are you using a retinoid/retin-A product on your face? If you are, that might be part of the problem - those make it way easier for your skin to peel off, so the waxing can take whole sections of your skin with it. You'd just need to lay off the product for 3-5 days prior to waxing and you should be fine.

If that's not the problem, try Vitality Wellness Day Spa in Maitland. They're very nice folks and Helena has been taking care of my face for a while now.

Have you ever tried getting yours eyebrows and lips threaded? That's all I do and it's MUCH gentler on the skin, and the results last longer than waxing. I absolutely love it! I live out in Tampa right now...but if you can find a Brow Art they do fantastic work :)

Let me know if you need more details.

I'm using Differin which is a prescription acne gel but it didn't say anything about those ingredients on the label.  Thank you for the recommendation.  I will try Helena next time.  Luckily, I think I have time for another trial before the wedding.  This should grow back in like three weeks anyway, right?

oh yes, I did the threading once.  It was the worst pain ever and the person did a horrible job.  I would never do it again.  That was like a ten on the pain scale where waxing is like a two.  Also, the lady who did it made my eyebrows really thin and they looked so ridiculous like drawn in pencil lines. I hated it.

I am with Theresa on the threading of the lip.  I loved it on the eyebrows, but the lip was excruciating.  When I get my eyebrows and lip waxed, it usually stays red for a good couple of hours, but I have really sensitive skin. Have you tried icing it?  I know that helps me.

I don't think Differin contains any retinoids, but I believe it does make your skin more sensitive to burning, so it may be a good idea to not use it for a few days prior to waxing. GL

You should try a different wax. My skin is super sensitive and does the same thing. I found a place that uses Sugar Wax and I love it. By the time I walk out of there my lip and/or eyebrow isn't red.

I was not a huge fan of threading either!

To be honest I love going to the asian folks at the nail salon, I have never had a problem, and they are beyond meticulous.

hmmm.... the sugar waxing might be a good thing then.  I'm guessing it is a skin burn because today it is still very red and sensitive.  It burns and stings.  I went to the salon and spoke to them about it and they were understanding and will probably give me a refund.

Thanks for all of the help guys!

I got the kit from Sally also and now im the waxing queen. My mom waxes my legs and armpits for me. I do my upper lip and eyebrows. I do also get my lady parts (but i dont trust myself or my mom) done. I wax everything cause i have insanly sesitive skin and shaving gives me really bad ingrown hairs everywhere and it lasts a lot longer.
