Honeymoon in South America? Machu Picchu and Rio de Janeiro

Hi All!

Our dream honeymoon would be to spend a few days in Peru and trek to Machu Picchu, then spend a few days in Brazil (Rio).

In my preliminary search, it seems like this will be REALLY expensive ($4k + per person). Does anyone have experience in either of these cities? That's a little more than I want to spend & I'm not sure how feasible this would be.
