Re: Parrot Key Hotel...Key West?

  • I haven't stayed there but I planned our trip to Key West in June and remember this being one of our major contenders. We ended up at the Westin and we drove by Parrot Key one day. Depending on what you want to do, the location is not great. At the Westin, we had so much in walking distance - Duval Street, Mallory Square, boat tours, bike rentals. Parrot Key was on a highway-like road and it seemed like it would be hard to get around from there. We had a car so it wouldn't have been a huge deal but at the Westin we didn't have to use it at all. When we did go to the Hemingway House and Southernmost point, we rented bikes right next door to the hotel.

    Hope this helps!
  • I agree with PP.  Parrot Key is located in what's called 'New Town" and is far away from the action of Key West.  Relying on cabs and shuttles to get into the main part of town will get old really quick and parking is a hassle.  If you stay in "Old Town" you'll be within walking distance to everything, and Old Town is a much prettier section of Key West.

Here is a map of Old Town: http://www.keywesttravelguide.com/map.html

  • Agree with both pps. We just went to KW this past June. We stayed at the Hyatt on  front St. in old town Key West. If you'd like to read our review and see our pics click "Our Website" above my siggy pic.
  • IA with all other posters. Crowne Plaza La Concha is the "big" hotel located on Duval, but pretty much any of the hotels near Mallory are a good location.

You should take a look at both Old Town Manor and Simonton Court for smaller, more romantic options. Simonton's gorgeous, and it's where I'm staying for my destination wedding in April.
