Disney Honeymoon Registry

Does anyone know anything about using the honeymoon registry for Disney?  I have seen this for other honeymoons but never for Disney.  Any thoughts on whether this is the way to go?

  • A honeymoon registry is a request for cash. Asking for cash is very inappropriate. People already know cash is an appreciated gift and will give it without being asked for it. They know to put cash/check in a card and do not need some gimmicky website that is going to keep part of the gift money. If you look at the Disney HM website, you will see that they have a 7% service charge for EACH purchase. Why would you want to lose part of your gift to fees?

Do a small registry for guests who prefer to give boxed gifts and others will get the hint that you would appreciate cash. Pretty simple and you don't have to worry about insulting your guests by asking them for cash.

  • We used it, even though our trip was 100% paid in full at the time we set up the registry. We intended to use it for bonus items that we would normally never splurge on. However, we got married in November and they have made some changes in recent months. Namely, the service fee, which is basically scamming your guests.

We set ours up because not only did it have activities and excursions, but there appeared to be physical items as well, such as goblets and cake toppers. However, we discovered that the registry doesn't actually include any physical gifts and is entirely up to the couple to purchase these items. I had a major family crisis in the 3 weeks leading up to my wedding and there was no way I had the time to purchase these items with the honeymoon card.

They may have changed this part as well, but we never received notification when someone purchased an item off the registry. I only realized after my shower that people had purchased items.

My opinion has changed greatly on Disney's registry and I would strongly advise that you just stick to something more traditional - or nothing at all.

  • Disney's honeymoon registry USED to just store up the dollar amounts purchased onto a gift card which you were able to use for anything that Disney GCs could be used for, whether it was the bride & groom ears or a nice dinner somewhere.  It USED to be a HR I could get on board with because you could only use it where Disney GCs were accepted.

HOWEVER, Disney recently changed the terms of the HR so that it functions just the same as any other HR out there.  Your guests get charged a fee of 7% in addition to the extra 3% charge if they use a CC to purchase your item.  You also get your funds the same way other HRs hand it out- either a direct deposit to your bank account or a check written directly to you.  THAT is what I can't get on board with.  There's no guarantee that money designated for Disney will be used for Disney.

You're better off to mention to friends and family (when asked) that you're saving up for a Disney honeymoon.  Grocery stores sell Disney GCs in many denominations.
