Destination Wedding...where?!

Hi everyone.  My fiance and I just got engaged about 3 weeks ago, at the shore.  We are looking to get married August 2011.  We will be meeting with a few travel agents in the next few weeks, to find the best person.  In the meantime, I definitely would like some input from people who've been to a destination wedding.  We definitely want to be married on a beach, preferably on an island such as St. Lucia or somewhere similar.  On a pretty moderate budget and want to make sure this is affordable and not obnoxiously priced for our guests.  Neither of us have been out of the country so we don't have much experience to go on.  Any ideas?  Thank you for your help!!

Re: Destination Wedding...where?!

  • I have not been to a destination wedding, BUT I am planning one. Good Luck with prices...We wanted to get married in St. Lucia, but airfare was like $820 per person. Our travel agent said $800-$1000 is normal from the mid-west We are also getting married in March. It may differ in price since it is spring break tome but I can't immagine it would be a tone cheaper. St. Lucia is in the Eastern Caribbean and is very south. I know this depends on where you are from.
We didn't want to break our friends either. We chose to go to Jamaica, it is also known for it's BEAUTIFUL sunsets!. Jamaica was almost 1/2 the price to fly to. We really wanted to get married on an island too. The only other island that is comparable in price is Grand Caymen. You also need to pay attention how long you have to be on the island before you get married. For instance St. Marteen you have to be there for 10 days, St. Lucia 3 Business days this does not include the day you fly in. So, if you fly in on a wednesday you can't get married until  the following Tuesday!  Jamaica is 48 hours and if you fly in on a weekend the hours are counted too!
The only other option for less expensive is mexico, which we wanted an island not mexico so we didn't have much to choose from. Hope this helps. The flights we checked were out of Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska. Minnesota was the cheapest air fare for us.
Our big thing is we want to get married on the beach! On an island! So we just reserved our resort last week! Can't wait! If you have any other questions you can email me to @
