XP: Hair Trial...sad day :(

ok pics below of what i wanted, what i got, and a second hairstyle she tried... now i have no idea what i should do with my hair... i've been so set on the pic of the hair i wanted since October im super sad that it didnt look good.  felt like it looked like something i did on my own. booohooo

So this is the picture i brought in and the hair i wanted:

This is what MY hair looked like... hmm



feel like it looked like hair i'd wear to a party or to work... does my hair suck or did the stylist just not do it right? i couldnt tell but wasnt pleased





she could see the lack of excitement on my face and tried to pin it up, i thought it looked okay..


liked the back of it



but with the veil........eh......not so much


what the heck am i gonna do with my hair now ????

well you look gorgeous, but I think the front of th original picture looks like it has victory rolls, or something and yours doesn't. the hair looks nice but I would add the rolls they would make it look more retro formal

I would try a different stylist.  Almost anything can be done with the right amount of product and whatnot.  Your hair looked really pretty both ways she did do it, but I love the hairstyle you picked out originally also.  I say, don't settle!  LOL.

I agree you look beautiful. But the hairstyle that you wanted can be done on your hair.

Like PP said in the picture they look like rolls, but if you wanted a bump on top it is totally possible to get it that high. It looks like the stylist used a smaller barrel for your curls too so that's why it looks different. Keep looking I think the hairstyle you want would look perfect with your dress as opposed to a regular up do.

Find a different stylist! You look pretty in both styles shown but you don't look happy at all. If I had to pick one I'd say I like the first one better. But I think you are looking for a little more drama and both of those styles are sort of plain. I love your inspiration pic and I think it should be a cinch to pull it off with your hair.

Call around and explain to the receptionists that you want someone who is good with retro hair styles. That way you wont be stuck with who ever is next on the new client list. A lot of salons will even do a free bridal consultation. You can get a good feel of whether or not the stylist will be able to pull it off.

I agree with PPs. Try another stylist. That hairstyle should work with your hair. You look beautiful, but you want to be thrilled with the final product.

I also like your original picture!  I agree with everyone else!  Try a different stylist!  The curls are different from your picture, but it can be done!    Good luck!

i agree with all the PPs... you might want to try to find an edgier salon. a lot of the basic or upscale places don't do hair like that normally, but with a younger/hipper place you will have a better chance of finding someone who not only loves vintage hair, but can do it too! a lot of my friends work at aveda salons and they all have super cute punk/vintage hair, so maybe that is a difference between institutes/schools. good luck!!!

As a hairstylist, I would suggest checking around with local tattoo shops and see if they know any stylists who can do pinup hair. Usually those retro people run around in the same crowd, so they may be able to give you direction.

You could also try modelmayhem.com and look for makeup artists and stylists in your area.

I think you definitely need to find someone to give you proper victory rolls!  Your stylist didn't give you a large enough roll in the front.  The other thing I noticed about the picture is that the model has ringlets, not curls.  Your stylist gave you curls with a lot of product in it.  Find someone who knows how to do victory rolls, or try them yourself!  Here's a past hair challenge that deals with victory rolls:

If you can't do it yourself, and can't find a stylist, I honestly think the second style she gave you is gorgous.  You'll still look very retro/vintage with a clip and birdcage veil.

agree with pps. your hair does not suck (its beautiful). your stylist, however, does. at least a little bit. find somebody else who can do it. youve still got time

I don't think it's your hair at all!  as people have said already, it looks like the stylist did not do a good job reproducing the hairstyle you showed her.  I would definitely shop around and try someone else.  I wasn't thrilled with my first hair trial either.  I'm glad I decided not to settle and tried a different stylist who was actually willing/able to create a more retro look for me

You could just instruct your stylist to tease the bangs up in front a lot more, and ask her for roller curls instead of curling iron curls. Also, invest in a really good volumiser to give your hair that Betty Paige "oomph" You could even get one of those "bumpits" from tv to put in your bangs, just to ensure there's no "droopage" during the wedding. I agree that you have quite a bit more separation in your curls then the original photo.  You might try a wet set or hot rollers to get a curl more like the original. It also needs to be brushed out properly. I don't think you are going to get it with a curling iron.  A great website that has probably been mentioned before is the Fedora Lounge one.  Hit the "powder room" for instruction on pin curls, victory rolls etc.

Absolutely agree.  Try to find another hair stylist.  Just b/c this one couldn't replicate the one in the photo doesn't mean there are a dozen others who can.  Perhaps you should try to find someone who does hair for a theater group -- they often have tricks for creating special looks that a mainstream stylist (without a lot of experience) does not.
