Photographer Negotiations

Any idea how I should approach this?  The photographer I am looking into is pretty popular and probably isn't hurting for business.  Any idea how I can approach this.  I basically need about $300 knocked off the base package price.  There's not really anything in the package I can do without as it is very basic. Thanks!

My thing was always to play hard ball and tell them that my budget is alot less than their package. If they are willing to negotiate they would consider your budget and knock the $300 off. But then again if they aren't hurting for business, then they may not even be willing to negotiate. I've ran into a few like that. Have you looked into other photographers?

Keep in mind that even if they shave $300 off the price, you need to consider the cost of prints. Also, do they give you rights to your photos or do all prints have to go through them. If you don't have that squared away, you may spend $300 less the day-of and a ton later.

I would say you should DEFINITELY be able to negotiate to get $300 off. Just tell them, I really like you and want to book you but my max budget is XYZ (which will be that number that is $300 less) and say if you can do that, that would be wonderful. But my experience when I was negotiating w/ photogs was that you should. be able to get more than $300 off the base price. Is it Lux? I think I remember you saying you might be going to talk to them. If it's Lux, you can DEFINITELY negotiate! If not, I still think you can! Good Luck!

It never hurts to ask, and if they don't anyone else interested in your date, they will probably take it.  I always went in with the..."I know you are worth every penny you charge, but I just can't afford it, can you take ...."

I've been getting photogs and videographers to knock money off on their packages, some more than others.  By doing exactly what the girls said, "i love your work, my budget is $xxx and this is what we want our package to inlcude...it's been working really well
