Save the dates

Is this something you have to send out or just do the invites?

If you're doing a wedding where a lot of guests will be from out of town or if your wedding is on a holiday weekend then it's a good idea to give your guests a little heads up.  It's also a great place to put your wedding website if you have one.

    They are not required. But:

    Pros:
    - can list details like wedding website, hotel blocks, closest airports, especially for those who are OOT
    - allows OOT guests to know they will be invited so they can plan for travel
    - Can be very cheap (I got free postcards from Vistaprint - shipping, plus stamps = maybe $12).
    - Allows people to plan so they are free on that day

    Cons:
    - You MUST invite everyone you send a save the date to - so if you end up with major budget issues, it means you don't have the option to cut the guest list.
    - If you change your date, you'll have to let people know ASAP. Changing your date close to the event might not be possible if people have booked a lot of non-refundable travel
    - They're an additional expense (no matter how small)
