Wedding Cake and Prices

I am trying to put a budget together to see how much my wedding is going to cost..... my finance and I are going to pay for it so I want to get it all down on paper so we dont go over ... so i found this really pretty cake which is super simple i think.... Basicaly that is my wedding theme all white and elegant... so i asked the bakery who made that cake how much it would cost and they told me for 280 people it will be $1500....i have never ordered a large cake but seriously are cakes that expensive its crazy....  I was wondering where everyone else is going to get their cakes from and if you know they can make this cake for me.... my wedding is going to be in the LA area

Love that cake!  I am getting my cake from Rossmoor Pasteries in Signal Hill.  My cake was close to $500, but for about 100 ppl.  I now know about another cake person who I actually like better, her name is Erica O'brien and her designs seem better.  I am not going to switch now because I will lose my deposit, just wish I would have known about Erica sooner.  She is a bit more expensive than Rossmoor, but I think her stuff is more artistic.

That's about $5.35 per person, which honestly, is a typical price for wedding cake.

If you really want to cut down on cost, just have a small cake made for cutting and keep some Costco sheet cakes in the back for guests.

Mine was $4.25 per person, I believe.

Shop around - plus you can taste cake everywhere you go!!!

You could also get that cake in a smaller size, and order sheet cakes to be cut in the kitchen and passed out to the remaining guests to save a chunk of money.

oh so if i order sheet cakes they charge less?

I thought it was all about the same because she told me she would make the cake and two sheets for that price and it would be a total of 280 poeple with the two sheets

Have you tried King's Hawaiian Bakery in Torrance? They are charging me 700 for a cake that serves 200 ppl (no sheet cakes) and that includes the renting of the base that your picture shows. They are willing to work with your design just make sure to make an appt to talk to them.

Before you invest in a wedding cake. MAKE CERTAIN your venue is not going to serve a dessert that will compete with it--otherwise it wont get eaten.

Seriously forgo the extra dessert.  We spent a ton of money on our cake, and it never got served(part of it was because my coordinator didn't do her fill in the bank job).

Also keep in mind not everyone will want cake, especially if you are serving something else with it like a candy buffet.  Factor your cake for only 75% of your guests rather than the full 280.

And if you are getting a candy buffet, make sure your coordinator follows your instructions to cover the darn thing before it is to be served--mine didn't and the guests were filling up on junk during the cocktail hour.  And don't let your coordinator tell you that just because she's seen xyz many weddings your wedding will be the same--that's a slippery slope too.

I think you can find a way better deal out there if that includes sheet cakes.  I thought that the wedding cake would have been big enough to serve everyone.
