Do you actually love this guy?  Or do you just want to have someone give you a wonderful proposal "experience"??

It's too bad that he didn't pay attention to what you had requested.  Maybe he was daydreaming while you were chitterchattering or maybe he just couldn't afford it.  But if you want to marry him, you should be happy with the idea of marrying him, and the jewellery is a secondary piece.  Lots of people get "engaged" without a ring, and are ecstatic to start planning their wedding and their lives together.
