When my fiance and I met each other, we were living off of ramen noodles and frozen pizzas.
We never had it easy and we knew if we could get through our relationship starting out like that, we could get through anything.
We started to date in early 2007 and by November things were improved (money wise, but not incredibly) He had gotten his income tax check back and he left for a few hours.
When he came home, he was acting a little shy and told me to stay in our room. I was in bed, my hair a mess, no make-up, oversized pajamas, and he came into the room with 2 glasses of champagne, a single rose and a box in his hand. He sat down on the bed and told me that he had never seen me look so beautiful and proceed to propose to me.
The ring was a $200 band from Kay Jewelers.
On to now.
We had never really started to talk about wedding plans because we knew it wasn't realistic. We moved back to my hometown in 2008 and that's when our lives changed.
We got amazing jobs and started to be able to buy what we wanted AND pay bills.
In summer of 2009, I was diagnosed with stage 3 skin cancer. I went bald, my skin peeled off, I was sick and my surgeries have ruined my body.
3 months after being diagnosed, my friend started to work at Zale's, she let us come in and play around with rings. Less than 24 hours later, my fiance came home with a beautiful NEW ring for me, while I was sick in bed after having chemotherapy and he sat me up... he said:
"I wasn't lying when I told you that you looked beautiful in a natural state. I don't care how you look, I don't care that you're sick, I'm here for the rest of your life and we'll beat this cancer, and anything that gets in our way."
We put off wedding planning until we knew I was going to be healthy enough to plan and whatnot.
Here I am, 18 months later and CANCER FREE.
And our wedding is April 9.
