Well, according to the news, the Lady Kate is rocking Diana's sapphire ... and she's going to be the Queen of England someday-so no, diamonds clearly are not a "must" for an e-ring.

I think every girl should love her e-ring ... and if you don't love diamonds or would prefer something else, then why not get something else? It would be silly to have diamonds just because it's the stereotypical stone of choice.

  • My mom has an emerald engagement ring, and it's gorgeous. I actually didn't realize that diamonds were traditional until tI started looking at wedding stuff.

I don't really see any reason why a diamond is automatically more special or meaningful than another stone. If a sapphire or ruby or whatever is more your style, go for it!

  • Jessica Simpson just got engaged with a ruby ring. I think that rings with different types of stones is getting more and more common and now that Kate Middleton has Lady Di's ring I think the trend will take off even more.

  • I insisted on a sapphire. Diamonds have been the norm for less than a century, since diamond engagement rings were invented as a marketing scheme by jewelers back in the 20's. I love my ring and wouldn't trade it for the world. Bonus: because it's a lab stone, it was much less expensive and is absolutely perfect.

  • I love it!  I think gemstones for rings are gorgeous.
  • I have never wanted diamond.... always wanted a sapphire, and a sapphire solitaire is what I got.

However, I do have micropave diamonds set into the band, which I surprisingly like.

  • I have a ruby E-ring. I don't care for the "traditional" diamond ring, so I made it my own. Do what you want, not what someone else says is right.

I have a diamond but I think colored engagement rings are beautiful.
Now that Lady Kate and Jessica Simpson have them they are going to become more popular.

  • I would have loved a yellow or even a emerald stone.  FI is traditional and since I will be wearing his Grandmothers band he had to find something that would work with it.

  • I have an aquamarine E-Ring. It is oval cut and works beautifully with many "traditional" wedding bands. I loved the style of the band itself--antique lattice work on the sides. I never wanted a diamond ring, I have an April Birthday... I wanted something that no one else had and that I loved!!

  • I'm a very traditional person and I really wanted a diamond. Although, I will say with Prince William's engagement it's going to become even more popular than it already is! I think if I did have to pick a colored stone I would pick a sapphire, with a diamond halo. Something like this:

  • I didn't realize you had a similar post to the one I just posted. But I am glad to know that Diamond rings are not to be expected. I have just begun thinking that I want an aquamarine e-ring for mine.

</div><div>The light color of the aquamarine is so elegant with any outfit.  I tend to wear my  sapphire rings/ jewelry with blues or blacks.  This ring matches and is beautiful. I hope you find one you love.  They are also reasonably priced and you can get an ornate band OR a simple one to match! </div>
