Just Engaged and Proposals

Christmas Eve engagment!!!! So excited... Where do I begin????

Hello All, Congrats to all the newly married and newly engaged... I'm sooooo excited I don't know what to do.. Thank goodness for this site. LOL.. Ok, My fiance took me to a restaurant on the Westside of Cleveland called Pier W. It was amazing, we didn't have reservations so we had to sit at the bar, the food was scrumptious... The restaurant over looked downtown Cleveland and the lake. It was simply breathe taking. After dinner he wanted to take me to the patio area that over looked everything. I could see all of downtown and it was so romantic. He started talking and showing me different buildings, and then he said to me, "Baby, it's that time, ( and honestly I don't know what else he said, I went into shock) I just know he was down on one knee with a ring and all i kept saying was OMG, OMG, OMG. LOL.. and then I kept saying yes, yes, yes.. LOL.. and couldn't stop crying. LOL..He had pre  planned the entire thing because the hostess had my camera and got everything on film. I'm so happy and excited. I'm on  cloud 9.
So we are sitting here discussing  a few things, and I think we are going with June 2013. What is the time line to ask your brides maid? and what style suggestions? Also, is anyone having an engagement party? what do you do there? And where do i begin with the whole wedding stuff.

My ring.. i love it, He did such a great job by himself. I love it.

  • Congratulations, my fellow Northeast Ohioan!  That's so sweet he planned it out for you two to have a video of that moment!  As for where to begin with the planning... I'm sorry to say I can't be of much help, as I just got engaged as well and have the same questions.  But you don't have to start planning right away.  Just sit back for a bit and enjoy being engaged!

  • Congrats and welcome! To answer your questions, wait until about 6 months out before asking bridesmaids. Relationships change and you are all sorts of horror stories on the wedding party boards from girls who asked too soon. The first step (after you enjoy your engagement- July 2013 gives you plenty of time to plan) is to set a budget. After that, set a guest list and look at venues. Also, you'll see this a lot on here: it's a faux pas to throw your own parties (engagement party, bridal shower, etc). If someone wants to throw you one, great! I never had a party, though. Good luck!

    Congrats!

    1. Asking the wedding party should be around 6-9 months out.
    2. An engagement party is a party in honor of the newly engaged couple, so the couple can't throw it. Plus, anyone invited must be invited to the wedding. So if someone throws you an E party make sure that the guest list is small as plans/budgets do change.
