• Mine is from a local jewler. I try to support small businesses whenever possible, and you can find some interesting one of a kind type pieces in smaller stores.

• My origional is from paris (he didn't intend on doing it when we left home so he didn't have a ring so he snuck away and bought one there) :)

The one i have now, which he had origionally intended on giving me was his nana's it is from the 1950's and i'm not sure where his papa would have bought it. she meant a lot to him and the whole family agreed to letting him give it to me <3 So it was almost like a family proposal in the end lol

• The Tiffany's at Heathrow Airport. The fiance was coming to visit me at Christmas, not planning to propose, but decided on the drive to the airport that it was silly to wait anymore. So he got it there.

Long distance relationship...duty free ring. V. symbolic. ;)

It's modest, but I *love* it.
• Our rings came from Littmans.

My ring was purchased in 1973 from Tiffany by my fiance's grandparents. I am in love with it! It resembles Princess Diana's -now Kate's- but smaller of course!

[QUOTE]Just as a side note, I bought a pair of lab sapphire earrings from a big chain jeweler today and had a disheartening exchange with the worker who sold them to me. They advertised a sale on rubies for Valentine's Day. I asked if that sale extended to all sapphires, since rubies are red sapphires. She replied no, and that they're completely different stones. I'm right, but I dropped it. This brought up a good point. Wherever your brother gets his ring, OP, have him make sure that the person helping him actually knows about jewelery. I'm not saying that this is a problem specific to the big chains and that one should never ever go there for such a big purchase - as you can see in this thread, many people are happy with their big chain purchases - just be sure that the person at the store actually knows what they're talking about.

THIS! Exactly! Chains hire people like you & me..without any formal jewelry training experience. The local store we purchased from only hires people who have been formally trained. Ex: The guy we purchased from studied at GIA. • My FI and I were living in Philadelphia at the time and they are famous for their jewlers row. He went there from store to store for about 4 months learning all about diamonds and then he picked out the stone seperate from the setting and had the setting custom made. We are going back there to get out weddin bands since we had such an awesome experience.

• We bought from a jewler in my hometown. As for bands, I'm buying his off etsy and I don't care where he gets mine from as long as he doesn't spend too much. I'd be happy with a 3mm band in the same metal as my e-ring.
• My ring came from a local store, but the designer we got it from sells in stores all across the country. I love it! :)
