jojo

I always call Lulu a deer because she looks like one and prances around like one.  Apple head made me laugh.  I think the deer ones are way cuter.  I don't care for the apple head ones.  Lulu doesn't bark (except when we play hard with her) so that's good to know that she may not be a yipper.  How big is yours?  How much does he/she weigh?

yeah jon and i used to think that ALL chihuahua's were apple head, until we got dolce. i was never a fan of chihuahua's before that, because i didn't know there was a difference. apple heads are the paris hilton dogs and if you read into it, they are basically inbred to become smaller and smaller. deer heads are way cuter and since they aren't "inbred" have less behavioral problems or so i've heard/read. our min pin is more of a yapper than our chihuahua. she is 10 lbs. the only problem we have had with her is that she has a bit of separation anxiety, which was kind of our fault for giving into at the beginning. she is the smartest dog (it's a smart breed) and we've been so happy with her.

I always thought all chihuahua's were apple heads too.  I had no clue there were different ones.  I was opposed to getting one because I didn't like the way they looked until I saw Lulu whom I thought may be mixed with min pin because she wasn't an apple head!  Thanks for clearing it all up for me!I think they are adorable and very sweet.  I'm worried about the separation anxiety.  I don't think she has it yet but I don't want to leave her for long periods of time (other than while working) because I worry she will be sad and start with behavioral problems.

some dogs have separation anxiety and some dogs just don't.. dolce showed signs of it very early and we unknowingly at the time fed into it to make it worse. on the other hand, our min pin could care less if we leave or if she's alone. so it really varies by dog. if she's not showing any signs now, i wouldn't worry. just make sure you are aware of what the signs would be and what not to do. she doesn't have it extremely bad, but it just gets sad to leave her because of it. thats why we got her a sister!

where are you getting her shots done? did the shelter do the full puppy shots?

Andrew is considering getting her a friend.  Her siblings have probably already been adopted so we'd have to find a stranger dog for her.  We don't know if we want to take on 2 dogs though. We are taking her today to get the parvo and some other shot.  We're going to a vet in San Jacinto.  I checked the humane society's clinic hours and they don't work as well with our schedule as the vet we're taking her to.  We're also going to address her kennel cough.  It doesn't seem to be letting up at all.  Poor thing just coughs away and can't stop.

ah i see. i was going to recommend http://www.rcdas.org/license.htm because they are a fraction of the prices of vets. dolce had kennel cough after we took her to the dog park and the vet gave her antibiotics and it went away immediately. you have to be careful because some vets mark up their prices a lot for little things like antibiotics. i recommend having two dogs, atleast after the first one is potty trained. it is SO much easier having two, than one.. surprisingly so much less work too because they take care of each other.

I'll check out that site and look into taking her there after today's appointment.  We are considering a 2nd so Lulu won't be so needy with us.  We have to constantly watch her or play with her.  Sounds like having 2 is easier but it still worries me....not sure if I can do two.  Maybe I'll go down to the pound tomorrow and see if her sis or bro is still there.
