No friend for Lu

The meeting with Cody went well enough but I wasn't feeling him.  He was more on the apple head side (big headed chihuahua) and I don't like that look.  Lulu was excited and started trying to play with him once we put her down but he didn't like that at all.  He growled at her and snapped at her.  Poor Lulu was looking aorund with her cute little puupy eyes wondering why he didn't want to play.  Eventually Cody warmed up to her but I don't think he was a right match.  And the search continues.....

We are definitely set on getting her a friend.  After seeing how excited she got when she saw another dog and how playful she was with him we realized she needs a friend for sure.  I am thinking about going to the Redland's shelter at lunch to see if there are any dogs of interest to me.

Oh fun! I like that shelter alot. Berdoo has more selection but they are not as helpful as the Redlands one.

I have been to the Berdoo shelter but not sure I can make it there during my lunch hour and make it back on time.  I might try though.  Is the Redland's shelter small?  I haven't been there yet.

The Redlands shelter has maybe 20 pens but they are a no kill shelter which I really like

I think the appleheads are just generally "snippier" but I am sure you'll find someone you love for LuLu. I hear that the Redlands shelter always has small dogs. There is also a dog rescue in Yucaipa that has a good amount of dogs, but the adoption process is a bit harder there because they have a very thorough screening process (or so they say).

OOh, I have to look up Yucaipa then.  Didn't realize they had a shelter there as well.  Thanks Jojo.

The nice thing about the Berdoo shelter is that they have a whole section just for small dogs. Much more than Redlands BUT Redlands just seemed to take better care of the dogs they have. I tried contacting the Yucaipa rescue but they never got back to me :(

I just looked up the Yucaipa one and sent in my application.  Way stricter than the shelter I got Lulu from.  We didn't have to fill anything out when we got Lu other than our names and mailing address.  Wonder how much they cost there.  They have a ton of small breeds and it sounds like they are well cared for.  I wish Redlands was open so I could check them out as well.

What was the total cost at the shelter? I know this place is more, because it's not a shelter, but an adoption center (they take in animals that may have been out down and still try to find it a home) so they charge a little more since they need funds to care for the animals. It wasn't ridiculous though, I think it was like $80, but that included spay, shots and microchip.I didn't have to fill out an app, I just called and they said I could come in, then we took an app in person.

that sucks... but at least you got to try it out before you brought him home. I am sure you will find someone soon.
