Are gowns cheaper before Christmas??? and when to buy?

I am getting married in Oct '10 and I am not sure when to start looking for a wedding gown! I read somewhere that  they are cheaper betwen THanksgiving and Christmas because they go up in price after the holidays because alot of people get engaged around Christmas and New Years...has anyone heard this>?? And is it too soon to start dress shopping? I am a full-time student and I graduate in May so I have alot of time over winter break then won't be free again until spring break .. ..when do you suggest to start looking??

thanks!!!

I haven't heard of that, but I do know that David's usually has a sale (I want to say 15% off or so) around Thanksgiving weekend. I think it's just to move more dresses at a typically slower time of year. If you are looking to save money, some avenues you could try would include buying your dress from an online retailer (once you decide what you want), purchasing from a consignment shop (if previously-owned is ok with you -- that's what I did) or Craigslist, or sometimes it's actually cheaper to have your dress made rather than buying. Of course, it depends on the dress and how elaborate you want.

As for when to start looking, anytime! Depending on the designer, it may take up to 9 months for a dress to be shipped. Not all take long though.

It's not too early to start looking at dresses, or even buy your dress. I do know that Expressions Bridal in Mentor is having a sale right now, but I think it only lasts through this weekend.

Not sure where you are located but the bridal salon in downtown amherst Sharons Bridal is running a huge sale on her instock items trying to get ready for the new stuff to come in.

Which is the only reason I have every heard of dresses going on sale at this time of year is for making room for the new dresses.

Thanks! my friend went to Juliannes too and her dress was amazing and majorly reduced in price (she did have to take it in like 10 sizes but it looked perfect)! I am actually going there today! wish me luck... and I too found a Maggie Sottero dress I am in love with online but I know the chances of finding it on sale are slim!!! thanks again!
