I'm a little nervous about booking a DJ, since I've read that they can make or break the party. Does anyone have recommendations for DJs that are clean, fun, and good MCs?
I went with Ray the DJ, they are a DJ service here. You tell them what you want in a DJ and they set you up with one that fits that. For example, I wanted someone who would keep the pace of the evening, but not someone who would talk a lot, and he set me up with Ed, who was fantastic!
You are right though, a bad DJ can really ruin an event. I went to a friend's wedding once where the DJ was so cheesy I bugged the crap out of me. This friend spent a lot of money on a very fancy wedding, the food was great, the place was beautiful, but all of that was really hard to enjoy with the horrible DJ talking every second and making the wedding all about him.
I agree with Lyndsey and what you said - that can make or break a party.
I think it important to make sure that you actually meet with the DJ who will be the one at your wedding. Your personalities have to mesh with the DJ and there were a few we met with that I wanted to run the other way within 5 seconds. Then there were a few others that would have worked but didn't wow me. In the end, we met with at least 5 and only really could see 2 of them at our wedding.
We went with Teffanie at Face the music. She has a great personality and I feel completely comfortable hiriing her. This was the first vendor we booked after the venue, so it was of very high importance.
I'm going with Jeremy with Ray the DJ. I've heard great things about the company, and Nilla Wafer (from this board) also used Jeremy and said he was great.
