HELP!!! New and struggling with a beginning!

Searching for a reception location that is not a banquet hall - is budget friendly - and is unique (bowling, ping pong, or just something different. I have two side of family that don't really enjoy speaking to each other and my fiancee's family doesn't speak a lot of english. I don't want 3 groups of people sitting around not talking to each other. I want fun and light - a party.

That shouldn't be difificult, right?

Hmm, that actually sounds like a cool idea!

The only thing I can think of is something like Dave & Busters (which actually has excellent food and large party-type rooms).

Both are good ideas.  I believe there's a Pinstripes in South Barrington off of Higgins rd and Sutton Rd.  My brother really likes it there.  You could always used a banquet hall and instead of bringing in a DJ have a Bags tournament or something.  My family and his are very different as well and bags and booz amways eases the discomfort.  But anyway you look at it my first recommendation is to breath for just a second.  Then, prioritize together what is non-negotiable and tell your families up front to minimize more tension and drama later.  The rest, be open to suggestion and willing to comprise.  Big battles aren't worth it in the end and cloud the big day.  Focus on what's important - you and your fiance and "happily ever after."  The rest is just icing on the cake.  Good luck - from a bride on the otherside of "I do."  Have the time of your life!

Pinstripes for sure!  I went to a wedding at the one in Northbrook.  Excellent food, and everyone had a wonderful time.  Plus, it's classy!
