Hotels without Attrition Charges?

Are there any 4-5 star hotels in Chicago that do not have attrition charges?  I need to block rooms for 40 people and I don't want to get stuck paying for rooms if my guests decide to stay some place else. Thanks!!

I work for one.  Most hotels will not block that many rooms without attrition charges.  It is hard for us to resell the rooms if you do not use them.  Most hotels will block 10-15 rooms at a time.  Once you have picked those up it can then be discussed about increasing your block.  For weddings even though you set up a block for all of your out of town guests, they tend not to stay at the hotel you provide.  This is why we do not hold that many rooms to start.Email me your dates and I can see what I can do at my hotel. pccatie@yahoo.com.  I can't say what hotel it is, but please email me and we can talk.

I have my main block at the Drake. Ditto what pp said about starting with fewer rooms and adding on. Thats what I did. Our cut off date was also about 5 weeks prior to our wedding date, so rooms would be easier to resell if not picked up.

I had heard that this was the case with all Chicago hotels, however I can tell you I have called tons of places that do not have attrition. Now I am only blocking like 15 or so rooms so maybe that is why...if they do insist, you could also ask if they would waive it if your rooms were released earlier before the wedding so they have time to sell them. I have been calling this past 2 weeks and was surprised there was no attrition, but obviously happy!

oh one website that was great was hotelplanner.com, you can send out an rfp type thing and hotels all reply in one interface, you can then deny people's bids based on requirements like Attrition and they are able to change their offers. My blocks will probably be at the Belden Stratford, Westin Michigan Ave, and Spring Hill Suites...Belden is the only one with a requirement, which is 5 rooms. I think the Marriots, W Lakeshore, and Days Inns, didnt have any requirements from what I can remember. HTH!

I had blocks at the following hotels, and none of them had penalties if the blocks were not filled: *Intercontinental Chicago, Knickerbocker, and Club QuartersWe had 15-20 rooms blocked at each, and they were held until a month before the wedding.  Most of our guests chose the Intercon, I had only a few use the Knickerbocker.  It was no problem at all.

None of our hotels where our blocks were at had attrition charges-they just released the block as of a certain date- so we made sure we gave plenty of notice to our guests as to when they had to book by if they wanted the block rate. Our blocks are at Doubletree Mag Mile, Inn of Chicago, & Red Roof Inn downtown.
