Save the dates?

How are in advance are the save the dates suppose to be sent out? i was told 6 months in advance. But i just wanna make sure.

I've heard between 6-9 as well. People have recommended as much time in advance as possible for destination weddings and weddings near holidays. We sent ours out a little over 6 months in advance.

Since we are getting married on a holiday weekend, we sent ours out about 9  months before.  I think standard is 6-9 months.  Anything after that is pointless.
