I'm a little perplexed on the tux places. It seems like there are 3 popular places--Black Tie, Formerly Modern and Men's Wearhouse.
I haven't heard too much about Black Tie but I think they work with House of Brides which scares me (just based on HOB's icky reputation).
I didn't really want to go to Men's Wearhouse because I heard they are a bit pricier. FI & I did go in a couple of weeks ago and basically got shown 2 choices, they gave us the prices and didn't get offered to try any on or anything. They didn't take down any of our information. It was just a quick "Here is what you get. Any questions?" kind of attitude.
Formally Modern was very nice. They only had 1 jacket in FI's size and the sleeves were WAAAAY too short. They didn't have the other styles in his size. Well I can't decide on just seeing the one jacket on him. The guy understood and offered right then and there to order in a couple of styles in FI's size so we could see them on and decide. That was 3 weeks ago Saturday and they were supposed to call us the middle of the following week when they came in. Well on the next Friday, I finally called and they said they didn't have any available because they were all rented out and they would be in the next week and they would call us. That was 2 weeks ago and no call yet, although I get a card from them that says "Thanks for stopping in!". I'm kind of over them.
So now I don't know what to do. Is there another place others have gone to? Is Black Tie good? How about Men's Wearhouse Tux (vs. a Men's Wearhouse which is where we went)?
Thank you in advance for any advice you have!
Re: Tux help--Long
My friend's daughter used Men's Wearhouse. The men were measured in 3 different states and when the tuxes came in they were ALL wrong. Main pickup store for the tuxes was S. State Street. The groom's tux was too long and they told him to pull it up to his navel. When he said no way, they finally took up the pants legs and then one leg was longer than the other. After almost two hours at the store, he said close enough. The FOB's jacket was 2" too long in the cuffs and the shirt was too large; this was in FL. Again, over two hours getting alterations. For the FOG, his shirt was too big and they told him to go to another store to pick up the right size. He said - get it here and I'll come back to pick it up later today. One poor groomsman wears a 34 pants and they got him a 38 and they said there was nothing they could do about it. The story was about the same with every single guy wearing a tux.
After everything gets settled, she going to post on YELP.
I guess you can guess my suggestion.
They aren't affiliated with HOB per se - 2 of the locationa are within HOB stores, but they also have locations in other bridal shops. They are a completely different business than the bridal shop - it's just a conveniency and a way to pick up sales easily. So you definitely shouldn't discount them because of their location.
