"cheaper" or more affordable places to host a bridal shower in the western burbs

I feel really guilty because money is tight for my family, and my mom doesn't have any good friends that would offer to host a bridal shower. I don't want to burden my family with a bridal shower, but we would like to have something for our side of the family. Does anyone have any ideas of affordable options for showers in the western burbs of Chicago? I'm thinking in the Oak Brook/Naperville/Downers Grove-ish areas.

Thank you SO much for your suggestions!

  • My grandparents live in a big condo building (that is full of old people) but they have a meeting room.  We used that.  Ask around if people have club houses or condo meeting rooms.  Those are either super cheap or free.
It's time. Adoption saving and process started in November 2012.

  • Good idea from Barb.  We almost had our small wedding reception at a condo complex all-purpose building in Aurora.  It was a building that was separate from the condos and on a small lake with a gazebo.  It was $100 for a 24 hr period and we did not have to be members of the condo assoc or know anyone involved.  They just rented it out to make extra $$$$.  We never completed the process because the contract stipulated no alcohol.
  • I agree w/a condo or apt. bldg. common room; that's where my BM's had my shower. Also try:
    -libraries
    -town halls
-churches (a friend had a baby shower at her church common room)
    -VFW or American Legion halls

Do you know name of the condo complex in Aurora that has a room rental for the public?  We are looking for a bridal shower venue in that area. Thanks!
