Hawaii

Flight Rates??

Hey, girls!

When I was doing some pre-pre-planning 5 months ago I called Hawaiian Airlines and got a ballpark estimate of $300 roundtrip out of Oakland, CA to Maui for a summer month (July). Our tentative wedding date is July 11, 2012 in Maui. Today I called to do some more pre-planning to see how much tickets would be 330 days from now. Because our wedding is further away than the airline's 330-day window period, I couldn't check estimates for our actual date. Hawaiian gave me an estimate of $750. I'm guessing that it's higher because we're currently in the summer travel season and when I called before it was still the winter season...but I'm still a little worried that this $750 price will be too much for our wedding guests! Do you think prices will be lower if we make reservations this coming winter in say October or November? I know it's tough to say with 100% accuracy since oil prices could fluctuant wildly between now and then, but I sure would appreciate some feedback! Thank you so much!

Flights from seattle are usually $500 or less, $750 sounds high! Im pretty sure you could find lower as it gets closer. It depends on what your guests can afford really.

I would wait till next year when the airlines have seat sales...usually 3 to 6 months prior to departure. HTH! J. :-)

Hawaiian Airlines was regularly more than Alaska.  Most of our guests paid about $420 rountrip (after our wedding group discount) to fly SJC-OGG nonstop in March.  Hawaiian was consistently $500 or more during this time (including our wedding group discount) and actually none of our guests flew Hawaiian because of it.

    Hope that helps!

I would wait and try not to worry about it.  We are paying for 8 tickets Seattle to Maui and by October we will have enough if each ticket is under $500.  I will then watch like a hawk for the sales.  I don't have enough right now so no need to worry about it.  I think you are right because it is summer and we can't book that far in advance the numbers are high.  I have seen them as low as $300 rt.

I have a friend who works in pricing for one of the major airlines and I asked him when the best time was to buy my ticket when I went to Oahu in March from Texas and he said that typically, don't buy more than 3 months in advanced because earlier than that, prices arent competitive enough. We bought ours the 1st week in March for $588 RT. After that though, I didnt see many at that rate.
