Ceremony & Reception on the Big Island- recs?

Hi all!
I am from CT and my fiancé is from Australia, so we have decided to meet in the middle and have a desintation wedding in Hawaii! Through the research I have done so far, it seems that the Big Island is the best price for all things wedding, including guest rates for rooms. We are inviting around 50 people, but 40 will probably end up attending.

I have been looking at hotels like the Royal Kona, Sheraton Keahou Beach, Fairmont Orchid (in my dreams), Hilton Waikoloa, and the Waikoloa Beach Marriot. I was wondering if anyone here has had any personal experience with any of these places? I am just trying to find out allll of the information I can. We want to get married in about a year.

Thanks all!

I am getting married at The Royal Kona Resort in Dec 2012.  I have not been there in person, but we had family visiting there and they took a peak.  They said it was beautiful.  I have been working with the onsite wedding coordinators over the phone and email and they have been very quick to respond and very helpful.  They have ceremony/reception package deals that seem to be a really good deal.  They also have discount wedding rates for your guests.  One of the things that sold me is that it is right downtown Kona, and so with the island wide 10:00pm curfew, we wanted people to easily be able to go out for an after party if they wanted.  The wedding coordinators said this was really common and that there are a few bars and such close by.  So far I have been really happy with their service!  Good luck :)

How was the wedding and rooms at the royal Kona we are getting married in May 2015 and looking at this for a possible site?

We're going to get married at the Mauna Lani. The coordinator is so nice and personally I think it's a nicer resort and area than the Royal. Their wedding prices and room rates are just as good.
