favors

I am seriously thinking about having Godiva Chocolates for my favors. I know they are pricey but I would not have to put any work into putting anything together. The gold boxes would look sooo nice on the tables. Does anyone have any experience with ordeing Godivas for wedding favors?!?! Is 500.00 way too much to spend on favors?!?!

First off, any favors that are edible are a slam dunk.  People tend to either eat them there or take them with them when they leave.  So, in terms of it being a good idea, to some extent it is.

In terms of it being Godiva, I don't know if I would go thru with that.  It's expensive, but not only that, it would be a hassle to get them- since they aren't sealed and are chocolate, you would need to get them first thing in the morning the day of the wedding, and then set them up, etc.  It would be a hassle for someone to have to do it, esp when the people we often trust the most for these kinds of activities are the ones who are closest to us and want to be with us the majority of the day.

I would suggest Lindt Truffles.  They are just as good, much less expensive, and prettily wrapped as well.  The other idea would be to have a candy buffett (which we decided to do!); there are many places to go to get candy for cheap, and depending on when your wedding is, you can find the glass jars and vases at thrift shops, yard sales, and even for sale from brides already married (it's what I have planned to do with my glassware for a while now).

In terms of amount, it would depend on how many people you are having and what your budget is.  I will tell you this: we spent no more than $50 (probably more like $30) on our glassware (25 pieces of varying sizes).  We are doing the candy in bulk from more affordable places (BJs, Costco, Sams Cllub, Bylers Amish Market/any Amish run store, and Nuts 2 You in Philly) and are buying your more typical candies instead of the fancy ones (ie, buying Kisses instead of Truffles and buying common candy like Twizzlers instead of fancy expensive hard to find candy).  We are planning for around 135-140 guests, and are hoping to do the entire buffet for under $200 (glassware, scoops, decorations, candy, and paperbags for guests).  Hope that puts it into perspective.
