Cake Testing Reviews (long)

I had four cake testings today, and I have to admit I am really surprised at my reactions versus what I've read on here. Cake Testing #1 Cupcakes -- They were super informed on their cupcakes and really helpful. They have cupcakes to match any budget, but (of course) the best tasting cakes were the most expensive gourmet ones. However, the most expensive gourmet cupcake was still cheaper than any per serving slice of cake (non-sheet cake). Cake Testing #2 Buttercream -- I was hugely disappointed here. I had made an appt. and requested specific flavors to sample during the testing. When I showed up, they couldn't find our names in the appt. book, and the guy we were supposed to meet with was of the office. We ended up talking with someone who didn't seem very knowledgable and had a hard time answering our questions. As for the taste, I thought the frosting tasted like pure butter. They had a carrot cake with "cream cheese" filling that tasted nothing like cream cheese and suspiciously like.....butter! I guess they don't call themselves Buttercream for nothin'... Cake Testing #3 Jessica's Cakes -- Jessica was a breathe of fresh air after Buttercream. It actually felt like she was really interested in my wedding cake "vision". She was helpful, and had some great tasty samples for us to try. One thing I like about her is that she offers many different frosting flavors. Cake Testing #4 Queen of Cakes -- Wow! We saved the best for last! We spoke with Valerie, who was great. She spent the most time with us and really understood what I was trying to achieve. The cake was the best tasting BY FAR!!! Not only that, but I would be saving major bucks by going with them. This one was a no-brainer for me.

THat's a lot of cake for one day!! I suppose that's a good way to do it though...that way you remember what others taste like and can easily compare. Glad you found a good one! PS: I'm not of fan of buttercream frosting for that very (buttery) reason!

Yay QoC!!! I also felt similarly about Buttercream - the butter flavor, plus it left a weird aftertaste in our mouths later that night. Our consultant wasn't very professional, so all around it was an easy decision for us.

I totally agree with QOC, they are amazing and Valerie made my tasting fun, comfortable and she even sketched out my vision exactly as I had imagined it after only talking to her for a few minutes.  Cake tasting is definitely one of the best parts of planning a wedding.

I totally agree with your opinion about Buttercream. As for QoC - they were really wonderful and even packaged up a bunch of samples for me to take on the plane later that evening for my FI to try back here in DC.  I loved them!!

I will be in MN tasting Queen of Cakes and Buttercream in a few weeks.Did you schedule your appointment with Buttercream online?  That is what I did. I wonder if that is why they weren't able to find you in appt book.  Interesting.. Thank you for your review!
