After dinner toasts?

The dinner we are serving is huge and soo filling. All of the weddings I have been to started the dancing right after dinner and my worry is that people will be way too full to dance right away. Any good ideas on how to pass a half hour after dinner to let people's food settle? I was wondering if it's fine to wait to do the toasts until after dinner.. or maybe do the slideshow then? I don't want everyone to be bored during that time though. Any ideas appreciated!:)

I think with the first dance, father/daughter, mother/son, and bridal party dances, there should be plenty of time for guests to relax after eating.

Thanks, I was kind of hoping to fill up the time for all of us as well.. we've had our dinner several times at our venue and everytime we get so stuffed.. it's so good you don't want to stop eating! We were hoping we could find something that would take up about a half hour before any of the dances.

I think you could wait until after dinner to do the toasts and speeches - that would give you and your WP and guests all time to enjoy their entire meal before it would get cold. And it would make sure you and your FI get a chance to sit long enough to eat. I also like your idea about doing a slide show after dinner. We might have our dinner very shortly after the ceremony, so I know it might work for us better time-wise to do the slide show after dinner. Plus, the slide show might serve as a cute lead-in to your first dance. I guess I don't have any ideas of my own to offer, just wanted to say that I think your ideas sound great : )

We waited until everyone was done eating until we did the speeches.  Then we had our first dance.  Our guests were ready to get on the dancefloor by that time.

I've always seen toasts done as dinner is winding down... At our wedding, we did toasts & a slideshow as people were finishing their dinner, then the first dance, then the dancing party.
