Help? How to find out if a guest brought a gift?!

We just got married, and now I'm filing in all the gifts and figuring out who to write thank yous to. We have a few guests that it appears didn't bring a gift, however, I am worried that maybe they did and it's been misplaced or missing! Plus, I want to make sure that I don't miss a thank you. One of these people I could have swarn brought a gift, and we do have things marked off in our registry that we didn't receive...

How do I bring up this subject with my mother in law (who I don't talk to all that much) or friends without sounding rude? How can I ask them to politely inquire? Appreciate your advice!

Where did you register? I know that Crate and Barrel lets you see who purchased each item off of your registry.

There may also be things that were purchased later and are still in the process of being sent to you.

Most places have a thank you note manager on their website that you can access after your wedding that tells you what each guest gave you.

I had a few orphan gifts as well.  There were some that we received with no name on them and a few that showed up on our registry as fufilled but we didn't receive them right away because the guest forgot to bring them.  We registered at Bed Bath and Beyond, Target and Sears... but couldn't get a "thank-you" list with the exception of BBB online purchases due to their customer privacy policies.  If they are available for you, then you can probably avoid the uncomfortable conversation with your mother in law!

Definitely don't ask people directly whether or not they brought a gift unless you think they'd be comfortable answering that...  only if you know that they for sure brought a gift.  We have several guests that did not bring gifts.

We have checked our Thank You managers, and in some cases, it says something is fulfilled, but doesn't have by whom. Any ideas there?
