  • I'm glad our uni does graduations in December too - I would hate to have to wait until spring to walk!

I am taking some time off before going to grad school so I can figure out what direction I want to go in. There's several that I'm looking at but just haven't had the time to research. Plus I really want some time off from school - I commend you for starting back up after your wedding. I'm going to have a BA in English so I pretty much have to go to grad school eventually.

<div>I hear you about that - I have a final at 3:30 tomorrow in one of my English classes but I do not feel like looking at Jane Austen right now. That's cool that you're going to put down deposits after the holidays - thankfully I don't think I'll have many deposits to put down for my stuff. No caterer, just a local BBQ place. No dj and our venue is a local Boy Scout campground so I just need to make sure they keep our day open.</div>

I have one tomorrow at 10 am, psych. I am really over reading different theories. I didn't want to take this class but I am going to be a teacher so I have to study EVERY subject! blagh!

You know what you would like to do in future? Are you looking at teaching?
I was supposed to go to the credential/graduate school right away but I am taking a year off to keep my sanity :) also being a foreigner everything just gets so much more complicated.

  • Out of curiousity, where are you from? I know our education system can be frustrating at times - sometimes it drives me crazy.

As for what I want to do, I'm looking at editing or being a librarian - teaching is on that list, but at the very bottom. I just don't know if I have the patience to deal with students or if I'm just that burnt out on people after school.

I'm from Sweden. Your education system is awesome. Really easy, because most teachers let you know what is expected of you, very different from Sweden. I had never seen a syllabus before coming here. I was so confused as to what it was for.

The immigration system on the other hand is extremely frustrating, especially after 9.11. I don't blame them though, it is good that they are though and thorough, it is what keeps us safe :)

Teaching is tough so I don't blame you for having it at the bottom of your list.

  • Nifty - I've never met anyone from Sweden before. Some of the people on my political board are from places like Norway though.

I will agree that a syllabus is handy as long as a professor sticks to it. I've had some that kept changing the syllabus throughout the semester, which got frustrating.

And I can't imagine how bad our immigration system is - I've only heard about the hassles and paperwork people have to go through.

Right now I am waiting for a fingerprint/photo appointment. It's been 30 days and no sign of it yet. I am getting a bit nervous that I am not going to get my working visa before the deadline of my student visa departure date. FI says it doesn't matter though, he'd fly over there and get me right back :)

  • Aww that's so sweet of him. <3

I had a customer once who was telling me about trying to get his FI in the country so they could get married. He was having issues with the fact that apparently you have to get married within a certain amount of time of arriving, which left little room for planning out a nice wedding for the families. I ended up telling him to just go the courthouse, get married within the time limit, and to spend the time making sure all the proper paperwork was in order; then to have a nice vow renewal for all the families to see later. It's interesting the things that pop up in a camping store :-D

Yeah you have 30 days... Not long at all. My sister did that, got married at the courthouse, then had a ceremony exactly one year after that. Camping store huh? I have never been camping, unless you count the tent I put up in my parents yard as a kid and slept in all summer long :)

Wait a minute.. shouldn't we be studying ?? Ha ha.

  • Actually I'm going to head for bed - it's 11pm on my side of the country. But yea, I should totally be studying instead of watching tv and chatting on here, lol.

And I love camping, just haven't had much time to do it with school and work. I'm hoping that after my FI and I get settled we can take a weekend to go off and camp.

  • I was engaged 2 weeks before my ring got done being set and sized. We just couldnt wait to announce to the world that we were planning on spending our lives together. I think that there is no point in being mean, however, it is obviously about the ring if you have a ring but its not the "big ring".... anyway, I hope you enjoy your planning process.

  • I spent a lot of time on the NYE board before I was engaged, and the girls on there will send some snark your way if you are actively planning and not oficially engaged, which is not what I'm getting here. You can be engaged without a ring, I know my parents were, and you can be engaged without a big or a diamond ring. I hope you love your small, non-diamond. It's nice that your Fi wants to get you a bigger one at some point, but obviously you're still engaged. When I spent time on the NYE board I didn't mention "plans" but I did mention things I liked. Looking is different than planning. I am so excited I get to PLAN now! And I've discovered that 4/13 is not nearly as far away as it felt in August.

  • When my fiance first proposed to me back in Sept 2010, he did not have a ring but he got down on one knee and told me I was the only one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with and that was special enough for me. My mom gave me her wedding ring till I got my engagement ring (which I just got :) ). 2nd, even though I am an April 2013 bride I pretty much just about have everything I want down packed... Just waiting on the money for it. I have bought my dress. I actually wanted to do the chocolate fountain. My people dont have any allergies except for one and she is allergic to chocolate so she wont be dipping her fruit in with it. I was going to use some calla lily toothpicks (Calla lily is my theme) that I saw on this website for dipping. Ya'll really think thats a bad idea?
