I'm not doing them. My family and I are all close they all know the date. No point. My wedding will only be 120 if it was a big guest list then I would.
We decided to do them since we have a few guests that will need plane tickets and we are having such a small wedding that we had more than one guest assume that they wouldn't be invited (thinking we would be doing family only). We ordered from vistaprint the last time they had 50% off and with postage they're costing under $20. It's no big deal not to do them.
Originally I had planned on sending them out, we are having a larger wedding with 230-270ish guests. The ones who would 100% receive a STD already know when the wedding is so I personally feel like it is a waste of money for us, and would be better spent elsewhere.
Also, just thinking about having to design one stresses me out so that is half the reason I don't care about doing them, lol. I can only imagine how awful doing actual invitations will be...
Most definitely, especially since we are having a "destination wedding" (aka 4 hours away from home). Most of our guest will have to make travel plans. We actually sent ours out last month. A little early, I know, BUT they are magnets. Magnents are hard to loose and pretty much can stay on a fridge forever. ( we have some that have been there for a wedding that was 3 years ago...)
We're not doing them. We're planning a small wedding so everyone will know the details far enough in advance by word of mouth. If we were planning something bigger we would probably do save the dates then.

We will not be doing. I know this sounds harsh but those that I really love and want to be there already know the details and those 8th cousins twice removed probably won't show up but you have to invite.
We are sending them out, only because we have a lot of extended family in NY. I know its not that far from CT but the venue is about 1 hour from where FI and I live. We also are going to put our hotel room block information with the STD (our block closed February 19, 2013) so I feel if we were to just send the hotel information with the wedding invite it would not be enough time for people to reserve a room.

We just got ours back and will be sending them in the next week or so. We debated if we should or not because most people do know the date, but then FI pointed out that most people know it's in the spring or in April, but they may not remember the exact date. And we had a fun idea that we wanted to do for our save the dates so we decided what the heck!
We are doing them. The wedding is in Austin where my family is from, but we live in DC and his family and family friends are all in Chicago, with a few others scattered around the country.
This is also where I plan to put the website, which leads them to the hotel information and registry. I know registry info isn't supposed to be on the official invites, so I figured that was one more way to get them out there.
Had I stayed in my hometown and married locally, I probably wouldn't have done them, but when you have 100+ people needing to take off work, book flights, reserve hotel rooms and possible cars, it seems like a necessity.
We also had to pay for a separate photographer to do our engagement photos since the wedding photog is in Texas. If I'm paying for the session I want to use the pics in as many outlets as possible!

I'm in a very similiar situation. The biggest problem is getting the addresses from my mom and FMIL. Trust me, I've reminded them a few times ;-) Our engagement pix were awesome, so I'd like to do more with them than just put them on Facebook and give copies to our parents. Thanks for the feedback, ladies!!!
Nope! The ones traveling from out of town know the date by word of mouth (my mom.) But I didn't want to send them out, because if I change the guest list, i don't want anything nailed down! (Except of course the family traveling from out of town.) And I saved money
We are definitely doing them. We live in Iowa, but the wedding will be in Indiana (where FI is from). It's the most central location for friends and family, but there are a lot of people traveling from other places - especially college friends - so I want to make sure they are given the opportunity to plan in advance - take off work, save money, etc. Whether or not they follow thru is another story. Plus I like the idea of having a postcard or something to send friends and family as a memento and reminder.
So ready to bring our families together and PARTY on April 13th, 2013!
225 Invited 53 Are ready to party! 18 Will be missing out! 154 Are MIA!
