How far in advance have ya'll booked your police escorts? Who exactly do I call and about how much did it cost? I just need them to escort from hotel to venue (both in Orleans Parish) and thats it.
You need to fill out a permit application and send it to NOPD Special Events (Sgt. Powers). I would suggest filing the permit about 2 months before, but they may not file it and send you tht invoice until a week before (that's normal -- don't panic ). How much depends on how many people you have, they have guidelines for how many cops per 100 people or so.
Police escorts are done differently than a second line. You fill out the permit for special events if you are having a second line. (Trust me, I know. I accidentally filled out the second line permit for the police escort -- not the same thing)
If you just need police officers to escort your limo and guests (in cars) from the hotel to the church, church to the reception, etc, you'll need to contact Officer Carr at 504-658-6205 (this is for an Orleans Parish escort). Call about 2 weeks before and they'll put you on the books. You need at least 2 cops on motorcycles for the motorcade, and they're about $100/bike for the hour. I would also call and confirm the reservation about 2 or 3 days before the wedding (I confirmed on Wed for a Sat wedding and we were good to go). I put my dad in charge of the money and when we got to the reception, he paid the cops.
