Reception Sites

I am planning a wedding from out of town and need some advice on a reception site. I am having about 135 people and want a space that is both fun and beautiful. I am not interested in any of the museums because I want it to be warm. Any thoughts? Also I looked at a place called Lumen, any one heard of reviews for Lumen?

What area of St. Louis are you looking for? Indoor/Outdoor? Are you interested in a reception hall or something more creative? There are lots of great places, too many to name, lol. It just depends on what you are looking for.

Anywhere between Clayton and downtown. I would like to be indoors and would like something more creative than a reception hall. We have looked at hotels downtown however haven't found any we liked. Hope that helps!

Hmm, ok. I will be having mine at the Holiday Inn in Eureka, BUT here are some of the other place we looked at:St. Loius Zoo- they have several different site to choose from, awsome photo ops!The Butterfly House: this is farther out than Clayton, and also outdoors (under giant tent), but one of the prettiest ive seenWindows Off Washington: right down town, more "trendy"Holiday Inn Southwest Viking: I know nothing about it, but I will be going to a reception there in 2 weeks, so i can let you know how it is.Oakland House: South St. Louis, Beautiful historic mansionChase Park Plaza HotelMillenuim HotelAmeristar: if you want to go this rout, Ive heard lots of good things, Its 270 and 70 area right across the bridge in St. CharlesHope this helps, also, look through past boards in STL weddings, you might get other ideas. Let us know how its going!GOOD LUCK!

Definitely 2nd checking out the zoo! We booked our reception - SUPER helpful staff, great food at the tasting, no tax since they are non-profit (big savings!), cake included...good all around.

A great resource for venues to look at is St. Louis Bride magazine www.saintlouisbridemagazine.com. Soulard Preservation Hall has some GREAT character to it and would be able to accommodate the size. Lemp Grand Hall has character (hard wood floors, old freight elevator that your guests take up). Renaissance Grand downtown has their crystal ballroom which is AMAZING!!! The Sheraton City Center has a cool Atrium on their 5th floor that might work. The Fox Theater will host events if they do not have a show in town. A friend of mine looked at Lumen and she said that it was very cool; however the woman she spoke with when they visited was lacking in the customer service area. I looked at the 9th Street Abbey (operated by Patty Long Catering) and I would 150% NOT recommend! The owner was very unprofessional, rude, and I had two conversations that ended with me in tears. St. Louis has some really great venues, I am sure you will find one that is perfect!

I looked at over 15 places so I have a lot of info! Lumen is great. I loved it. Very trendy but kind of expensive. Since you are having a smaller # of people it may be more doable $ wise. Lots of ambiance. The Zoo is amazing. It was my second choice. They have great customer service and are very reasonable priced. I had a different opinion than a previous poster about the 9th Street Abbey. Such a unique venue. I had great customer service and they were very helpful. Very reasonably priced. They also have a awesome outside patio area for a cocktail hour. The Sheldon Concert Hall was another one of my top picks. Randall Gallery is another unique venue that includes a lot in the packages. I know you said you weren't interested in museums but the City Museum isn't like any other museum you may have seen. Very unique. Awesome! Kind of pricey b/c you have to bring everything in but you should check it out. Another couple of good venues are the Worlds Fair Pavillion, the Lindell Pavillion or Busch Stadium. Good Luck. Reception shopping was my favorite part of planning!

I loved Lumen as well but it was just too expensive for me. They have a 15,000 minimum for Saturdays and $10,000 minimum for Fridays. But for my 200 guests with food stations and just house alcohol, I was quoted $25,000. So it just depends on your price range and number of guests, etc. Neo on Locust and the Palladium are a few other venues that I didn't see mentioned.

I'd second Randall Gallery for some place that is different,b tu you're the only one there and they will customize any package for you. Also you might want to check out the Franklin Room in Soulard. It's a turn of the century ballroom that is beautiful. The Coronado is great as well.

The Rialto looks neat.  MAD Art Gallery I heard is really cool also.  I'm having mine at NEO on Locust on the fourth floor, but it isn't done yet.  It is supposed to be at the end of the Fall though.  Xavier Grand Ballroom is where I was originally going to have mine.
