Cheap Photographer?

Hey Ladies,

Does anyone know of a cheap, good photographer in the area? Looking to stay  under 750.

Re: Cheap Photographer?

  • Usually with a photographer, you get what you pay for.  So on that note, no I do not, but I suggest looking closer to $1000+ just for the quality factor (that doesn't  mean expensive=awesome photog but it's pretty evident when people are worth what they charge).

  • Eh,

I kinda feel like photography is an inate skill... As long as someone has a decent camera and skill the pictures will be ok.

If you look at most of the pakages the high prices are due to a ton of add-ons with no real value. I don't need my photos photoshopped, I don't need a DVD slide show, I don't even need prints. I just need someone with a good camera who knows how to shoot and who can give me the memory card after I'm done. That shouldn't cost 1000 bucks.
  • Wow..I feel everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I have to agree with annmarie714! But if that's what you want why don't you just get a friend that has a decent point and shoot camera, and knows nothing about composure, lighting, posing and have them do it for you for free? Why spend anything? I'm sure if you put an ad on craigslist you could find someone really cheap or free who's trying to get into the business. Good Luck!
  • Try John Landry.  He did our engagement photos and did a great job!

  • I agree with annmarie714 as well. I have a pretty decent camera , a good eye for composition and very decent photo editing skills and would NEVER say "oh hey I'm a good enough photographer for a wedding." If you don't want the editing, you can probably negotiate the price with a photographer, but editing isn't just photoshoping, it does involve croping and light correcting- which will likely need to be done if you have your ceremony in a place that doesn't allow flash photography (like my church). The equiptment that a photographer uses is also extremely expensive.

You could go over to OSU or CCAD and see if any photography students would be willing to do the job for you, but be cautious.

I'm using Ron Walker. His photos are good and not overly stylized (which was a requirement for me) and he has packages under $1000. He's also open to some negotion in cost (for example, we aren't doing engagement pictures, which are included in the package, so we're turning the cost of that session into more time at the ceremony).

  • My fiance and I are also using Ron Walker. Super nice guy, and you get photographers. Were doing the engagement session and its still just a little over $1000. He was one of the cheapest ones we found and it includes everything the more expensive ones do.
  • Have you thought about someone who is just starting?  Kelsey Pickens Photography is new, she is located in the Hilliard area and I know she won't charge you a ton. She has a Facebook page and her pics are great!

If you want someone establied and isnt' horribly expensive try Portraits By Carmen.  We love her! She is located in Grove City.

I met with Ron Walker, he was very nice and had good pictures!  I was simply looking for a different style than he provided but that's where shopping around comes in!  I met with so many photographers but ultimately had a "feeling" when I met with the one we chose.  I loved her spunky, fun, outgoing personality and you could tell she loved doing what she did.

On the note of your reply to our posts, I h ave a nice DSLR.  I'll shoot your wedding for $500.  That's the cost of my camera, alone.  Not including the lenses I have for it Sealed.  I should add I have no experience, do photography for a hobby, and have no desire to be professional BUT I can point and shoot just as good as the next person.  I don't photoshop, I don't burn DVDs, and I don't do slide shows.  I can give you a memory card, no problem.

Also, if photography is such an inate skill, I would like you to try to be a photographer.  One day, at one wedding.  Get all those "special" moments, all the little glances, kisses, tears, and laughter caught on camera on the first try.  Coordinate an entire wedding party, family, small children, and nervous/excited bride and groom.  Run a business handling money, schedules, and try to maintain a family life.  Photography isn't easy.

</div><div>Anyways...My packages range from $800-$2500 depending on what you are looking for. I am not really sure of any photographers who are less than $750 because there is so much that goes into photographing a wedding. Good luck!</div><div>

Well first... One person shouldn't be footing the ENTIRE bill for your equipment. Second, I was clearly taking about someone who does photography as a hobby, NOT  someone who can "point and shoot."

Second... I didn't say photography is easy, I said it's a skill. I said NOTHING about running a photography business. Plus, there are tons of photographers with degrees and business who are TERRIBLE at their job and we ALL have friends and family who are hobbist and excellent at what they do.

Third, I can't afford a 1000 dollar photographer and it's EXTREMELY rude for you to be so snippy about that.

PLENTY of people have made it through a wedding with photographers that were under a thousand dollars. It's not that ridiculous of an idea. There are terrible photographers who charge 3k for a wedding and excellent ones who chare 800. PLUS, I don't need or want pictures of my place settings. I want 3 hours worth of time, it shouldn't cost 1000 bucks.

I am getting married for the resulting marriage, not for 300 pictures of "little glances, kisses and tears." People value different things in life and you have no right to be butthurt about what I think is important.

Edit: Also, If you REALLY think this is a good photo that couldn't be recreated by a hobbyist  photographer and a little photoshop AND that this is worth 1000 dollars (that could be spent on SOOO Many more worhwhile things after the wedding) then I see why we don't see eye to eye. You're ignorant or crazy.

FYI, croping and light correcting are done by Photoshop. Also, FI and I have photoshop and know how to use it. IT's not that I don't see value in cropping shots, it's that I would prefer to do it myself.
